A tale of two kitties (aminals)
And, at the same time, Toby is extremely curious (and often gets himself "stuck" in situations where he needs to find a creative way out, and does so), while Shooby doesn't seem to want to explore anything on his own, content to just wander a little and mostly lay down in the hallway (aside from the first night I him out, and even then I don't think he actually went that far, he was just too disoriented to remember which house was mine).
Toby is extremely self-reliant; he only gets my attention when he wants to be let out or if his food isn't fresh enough. Shooby seems to constantly depend on my presence, and won't even use the litterbox without my "permission."
Toby was playing with a little scrap of cardboard on the floor right in front of Shooby. Toby would attack the hell out of this little scrap of cardboard, just on a whim, and was having a grand old time. Eventually, Shooby started to think that this thing was actually alive and should be played with, and so he pounced it too, and Toby backed off to let Shooby have fun with it, at which point it stopped moving, so Shooby lost interest.
Shooby won't even chase the laser pointer, when Toby will come running from a block away if he even hears its chain being rattled.
Shooby seems to be something of a loner, and likes to sleep alone (and won't even fall asleep in my lap), while Toby often insists on sleeping with me, and even insists that I come to bed when it's nighttime and he's tired.
Shooby insists on pooping in the litterbox, rather than go outside to do his business, while Toby was demanding to be let out for that purpose even before I first let him outside.
I especially hope that last bit changes, because I'd forgotten how much I hate the smell of kitty poop.
