Job interview (job stuff)
(Also, I'll probably start doing some retroactive journal comics of the past weekend tonight, for those who have been jonesing for a scribble fix.)
The interview (a conference call with a few of the people there) went well. It actually sounds like a pretty interesting position. There would be a mixture of web development, video production (both audio and video), application development, and so on. Most of their contracts are with the US government (mostly DoD but there's others, like some department of justice work as well) and they have more contracts than they can shake a stick at right now.
The city (Johnstown, PA) actually sounds pretty nice, too. It's a farming town which isn't too far from urban areas, and is pretty close to Boston, DC, New York, etc. None of the people in the department I'd be working in are from that city, and it has a fairly low cost of living, but still has all of the amenities I want. They described the city as being very green, and having lots of mountains nearby for hiking, bike trails, and so on.
The most intriguing part of the job for me is that I wouldn't be stuck doing any one thing the whole time, and there's so much work they have available that I can basically pick and choose which tasks I want to do. There'd be some travel involved depending on my involvement with the various projects, but they said that basically I'd be in control of how much and to where.
They were interested in my range of knowledge, skills, and interests, and said they'd be in touch with me again soon, and will likely fly me out there for an on-site interview.
In some ways I think I'd be happier there than at Alien Skin, but I'm definitely not sure at this point.

Close to Boston?
I realize that maybe this is my New England sense of distance kicking in (anything over 50 miles is "far"), but I wouldn't call Johnstown pretty close to Boston. It's at least a 6 hour drive.
That said, it sounds like a great place, though perhaps a bit more rural than Raleigh.

Oh, yes, you'll be about an hour away from Mr. Krout...
As long as I can get broadband, I'll be fine. :)
Johnstown? That's about 65 minutes west of where I am. I can think of one or two companies that it might be. I don't know if I'd describe J-Town as a farming town. Former steel town, yeah. And you can't forget the flood. ( Or that Slapshot was filmed there).
But hey if ya fly out for an in-person interview, let me know.
I will be sometime the week of the 6th.
Oh, and send me email, 'coz I don't have your address, and I don't want to post the company name publically here. (I'm getting paranoid about this stuff.)
Look for an email from nawftn502@sneakemail.com.
This is Pennsylvaina. The land of perpetual precipitation, the land of total isolation from the rest of the country. It's a good place to come to if you want to get depressed, put a pistol in your mouth, and blow your fucking brains out. Stay out of this fucking shithole and go somewhere else.
Agreed Sir i lived here my whole life till i moved to CO and its awesome
