El Paso → Houston (full jet)
Houston → Pittsburgh (commuter jet)
Pittsburgh → Altoona (tiny dual prop plane)
20-minute layover in Altoona (due to some weird government subsidy issue)
Altoona → Johnstown (same tiny dual prop plane)
I like the prop plane. It vibrates me in a way which I have never been vibrated before (or at least since the last time I flew in a commercial prop plane, which was something like 13 years ago).
The Altoona airport is total podunk. It's still way bigger than the Las Cruces one, though. I feel kind of sorry for the TSA screeners who have to work here though... their only purpose is to sit around here and screen the occasional person who might come in through Altoona lest it become a major security hole for the rest of the transportation infrastructure for the entire United States. There's like five of them just standing around, bored, and it seems that they put the only bathroom outside of the secure area with the sole purpose of giving the TSA screeners something to do.
The Las Cruces one doesn't even have TSA screeners.
Anyway. Finally got to Johnstown (without my luggage, which will be arriving at the hotel at 10:30-ish I hope), called /dev/trash on the phone, found out that he'd forgotten I was coming into town tonight, chatted for an hour, went to a crappy steakhouse next door to the hotel, came back, talked with my parents on the phone. This city's a lot smaller than Las Cruces. It's also nice and slow-paced. I'll get a better feel for it tomorrow though. Right now I just want to sleep for 12 hours.
