Daylight savings time fucking sucks ()

by fluffy at 5:52 PM
We spend so much of the year getting used to daylight centering around 7AM-7PM that when DST ends and everything goes from 6AM-6PM instead, it's just extremely depressing. Especially since the change happens well inside the equinoxes (so it's actually more like 6:30AM-5:30PM at its best, and more like 7:30AM-4:30PM on the solstice)

One could argue that it sucks to have the day start at 4AM on the summer solstice, but it also sucks pretty bad to have it end at 9PM, so...

And if it's this bad at the southern edge of the country, I can't help but feel sorry for the people in, say, Maine.

I lived in Northern Minnesota (north of Maine) for a few years as a kid. I have distinct memories of walking home from school in the dark at around 4 pm.

Ick. So like, the sun rose at about 8AM then?
#1103 devtrash (unregistered) 10/28/2003 07:29 pm I like the extra hour of sleep that one day.
But the stupid SAD is starting to set in again. Not that DST causes it but still.

Here in New England, you get used to the sun setting at about 4:30 or so this time of year... the upshot, of course, is that the sun doesn't set till past 8 o'clock in the summer...

It's not much fun being in one of the few regions of the country that doesn't observe DST. It's lovely going to a 7:30 am class during winter and having it be completely dark out. Not to mention having to make a conscious effort to keep track of what time it is in non-backwards regions of the country, especially when there's no warning around here that everyone else is back on standard time.

Let me guess. Arizona?

Take comfort in the fact that it's the rest of the world making timezone management needlessly difficult.
#2180 Anonymous 03/26/2004 01:42 pm Arizona needs DST
Arizona really need to observe DST during the summer between April and October. To assure that they'll have a good taste of having daylight/twilight later in the evening if the government allow to use DST which means still on the MST. However, since Arizona do not observe DST which means they are on California time (PST) will get dark early and California will still have daylight a little while longer. If Arizonas were smart enough, they can tell the local government to move the clock 1 hour foward and still be on MST, not on PST. The Indian Reservation do observe daylight savings is on MST and the rest of the state is on PST. You may want to check on www.sunrisesunset.com and most of USA have daylight after 8pm. Best if the people in the state of Arizona to persuade the government or vote.

You may want to read this weblog post, whose entire point was that NOBODY should do daylight savings time because it causes more trouble than it's worth and, if anything, is backwards.

I HATE DST !! Im in the Southeast and last week the sun was starting to rise at arount 6 or 6:30. Now its DARK out again in the morning until around 7 and difficult to wake up on time. In the summertime, it will be light out until almost 10PM. This is sooo stupid because it doesnt matter if we change our clocks or not, there are still the same amount of daylight hours !!! Mad

Farmers hate daylight savings and they try to activate people's lives.

Yeah, I know farmers are trying to activate my life all the time!

#10666 Anonymous 03/27/2008 03:26 pm 9 months save energy
Arizona are losing 9 months of Daylight Savings as of this year 2008. And the state are on PST (Pacific Standard Time). The Indian Reservation are saving 9 months of Daylight and they are on MST (Mountain Standard Time).

A recent study in Indiana found that DST didn't save any energy at all.
