The sun is setting ()

I need to make myself scarce before the children start arriving, expecting me to give them the candy I don't have.

It's not that I dislike children. I like them in small groups, when they're well-behaved. Pretty much all the problems I have with children are ultimately the parents' faults.

But on halloween, it's this big horde of grubby little greedy monsters whose existence seems to center around annoying people who don't want anything to do with them at the moment.

Surprisingly, this is pretty much why I can't stand them on airplanes either.

Around here, kids seem to know there is no candy left when you turn out the light. We got just over 50 this year.

Strangely enough, one woman showed up with a small cup asking if I would fill it up for her little dog. Puppy dog got the star treatment. I 5-stage filter my water. ;p

Kids around here don't seem to follow such conventions. "Porch light is off, there's no jack o'lantern, no house lights are on, but HEY maybe there's candy anyway because the car is sitting in the driveway so LET'S RING THE DOORBELL ANYWAY."

And then if there's no answer in 5 seconds, they ring again. And again. And again.

I'm fine with kids being disappointed if I don't have to be distracted in the meantime. So I went and watched the David Cronenberg remake of The Fly with my friend Geof, and then we chatted about basically everything until 3AM, as usual.
