iPod 15GB for $270 ()

Today (February 1) only, the Apple Store has a 10% off sale for the full-size iPods and select iPod accessories. Get them while they're hot.

(I'd grab a 15GB but I need to save my money, and $270 is the normal educational price anyway. Since the university bookstore doesn't actually check for current enrollment before giving .edu prices on computer stuff.)

On a tangentially-related note, pointed little quill should be showing up in the iTunes Music Store within a couple weeks, so if you have any special Pepsi bottlecaps, you know what to spend them on... ;) (CDBaby actually pays the artists $0.53 for each $0.99 download! Indie artists actually get more on the iTMS than they do on physical CD sales... Right now is a wonderful time to be an unsigned musician.)

I'd definitely use the Pepsi points to buy the song. But iTunes is a Windows 2000 and up app.

Huh. I always thought it supported '98, but I just checked... Damn. I have some '98-using friends who would totally love the iTunes library interface (but don't have systems even remotely capable of running 2000, and can't afford to upgrade), and who I've been trying to get to switch, thinking it would be possible for them to.

Hm. Also, from the iTunes site you wouldn't even know there's a player to download. Ugh.

I think the major reason there is no Win98 support is Windows 98's lack of Unicode development. At least that is what I read somewhere. Some have said that Apple just didn't want to develop a separate version for Win98, but I see lots of apps out there that run on Win98 and up. Apple's loss though, since I am not in any position to upgrade.

Hm, if they coded the unicodey stuff right then they should just be able to recompile for Win'98 and just get sucky ISO-8859-1 (or whatever) instead.

iTunes is very i18n-heavy though, and Win98 is not.
