The post of EVIL ()

by fluffy at 10:43 PM
Archive ID 666 needs a suitably evil post to fill in its space.

So, how about this idea for remote file search?

A blast from the past ()

by fluffy at 11:47 AM
So, like, yesterday John told me that I might be getting a call from the staffing agency about putting my services "on hold."

Basically, I'm having flashbacks to the late 90s.

Powerbook G4 Annoyances ()

by fluffy at 08:17 PM
Yep, after only one day I already have various issues with the 12" PbG4...

In this case, it's specifically about the display.

Easy salmon-based food ()

by fluffy at 10:24 PM
So, my mom's out of town until next Tuesday, which means that since my dad is totally helpless when it comes to food, I'm cooking until then. Which is great, since slaving over a hot stove is just what I want to do after I get home at 6:30 after 8-odd hours of working with a major asshole, but I digress.

Of course, my dad (who gets home at 5:15 or so) is also clueless about what needs to be purchased at the grocery store, and so I'm just having to make do with what's around.

And what's around? Salmon!

More signs that you're disposable ()

When the boss is going to be out of the office next week, and you won't be able to get in on Wednesday because you still don't have a key, despite two months of showing up to a locked office — but the part-time accountant who only works the middle 5 hours on Tuesday and Thursday does.

New SongFight entry ()

My best one yet.

Listen to it and other entries when it goes live sometime on May 20, 2004 (or find it in the archive after May 27 or so).

So sick of not having a laptop ()

by fluffy at 01:28 AM
Also, my G4/450 is pretty long in the tooth by now. So I'm really considering buying a laptop.

Given up on KDE at work ()

by fluffy at 03:52 PM
It just wasn't willing to tone down the sucking enough for me.

Back to pwm. Only I'm mitigating the reasons I switched away from pwm to begin with by just not having it automatically tab-group Mozilla windows, and by using Mozilla's built-in tabs. (Because Mozilla/gtk/whomever people are dumb and don't set dialog boxes to be transient, so pwm groups them the same as browser windows, which just doesn't work that well.)

So now I have two layers of Mozilla tabs, which is actually kinda useful in a strange way.

Do the new 15" Powerbooks have spots issues? ()

by fluffy at 08:36 PM
Does anyone know if the new 15" Powerbooks (the 1.33/1.5GHz ones which came out a few weeks ago) have the white spot issues? The last I'd heard was a slight murmur that Apple had an engineering fix for the problem on the RevA, but Google is still serving up all the information about last October's outrage and doesn't seem to have anything more recent than that.

I want to finally get a laptop again, but I don't want something which I'm going to have to send back to Apple for repairs every month...

 ()

John's current "business dealing:" He's getting into the calling card scam business for extra capital while getting the VoIP business going.

Another place where iTunes sucks ()

by fluffy at 08:53 AM
Right now my computer is occasionally locking up for reasons I've been unable to determine (I've already checked all the memory with memtest86 on another system). In the meantime, iTunes doesn't maintain any sort of data integrity on its library, so if the lockup happens at an inopportune moment, the library gets corrupted and I have to rebuild it.

What a fucking asshole ()

by fluffy at 11:18 AM
Jennifer: What is the status of the Friday shipments?

John: I didn't do any, because you didn't mark any shipments as completed on Friday so I didn't want to muck about doing research as to which ones you'd shipped or not.

Jennifer: I didn't do any shipments then because I wasn't in on Friday!

John: Not my problem.

Teriyaki grilled salmon (, )

by fluffy at 10:31 PM
Okay, so yesterday, after an all-evening Food Network binge (watching, not eating), I had an idea of preparing one of the Alton Brown recipes.

But my subconscious had other plans, so I made teriyaki grilled salmon today instead. C'est magnifique!

My house is sold! ()

by fluffy at 06:03 PM
Actually, I sold it over a month ago, but the closing finally finished, and today I got my check in the mail.

Next step: cancelling the fuck out of my MBNA credit card, paying off my Capital One card (which I'm going to keep since, unlike MBNA, their entire business model isn't attempting to screw everyone over on interest rates and "special promotional offers"), and paying my parents back for my moving expenses. And still having a nice big chunk of change left over. Woo!

Why the OSX 10.3 Finder still sucks ()

by fluffy at 05:32 PM
Over on Joy's weblog I mentioned that the 10.3 Finder still sucks, and that I really hope Apple fixes it. Someone asked how I thought it sucked, so here's a list as I think of things. (Mostly an extension of what I posted as a comment there.)

9:06 PM I've gotten some flak for being "too negative." In my defense, I was only talking about specific aspects of the OSX 10.3 Finder which suck (and not OSX as a whole), and it's basically a bit of balance for back when I was unconditionally singing OSX's praises. It'd be pretty zealoty of me to only talk about the good stuff, right? And anyway, I only said that it sucks (which means that it has room for improvement), not that it fucking sucks (which means that I hope the programmers get some form of unpleasant venereal disease).

Stress meter: 180μCecils ()

by fluffy at 04:15 PM
Today's dose of bullshit. (John is being more of an asshole prick than usual.)

(BTW, the formal definition of a Cecil is enough angry to launch a thousand quits. So 1mCecil = 1000μCecils = enough to make me quit. Sorry for not actually defining my scale earlier.)

Today I got a new toy, which is worthy of a review.
