What's that sucking sound? ()

by fluffy at 5:10 PM
Why, it's John's universe collapsing all around him!

Okay, so like, last week I sent him an email asking him when I could come to pick up my personal effects so I could use them while RHI has me on hold. He never responded.

I called Renay on the phone, and mentioned the personal effects issue. She said she was heading to John's office to try to work something out with the payment anyway, so while she was there she'd pick them up for me (which is standard RHI policy).

A few minutes later, she called me back saying that John was being obstinate about actually being accessible, but that he claimed that he'd already responded to the personal effects email.

A few minutes later, I suddenly got an email from John, saying the following things:

  • I can pick up the personal effects tomorrow afternoon when the accountant is in
  • "the web UI has multiple SQL bugs and basicly[sic] doesn't work now." (Gee, too bad you didn't tell me these things when I was still getting paid. Fortunately, the fact he cut off all of my access to the network the instant Renay put a hold on my work means there's no way he can reasonably claim that I put the bugs in for job security or any bullshit like that.)
  • He was unhappy that I'd spoken to Renay about the funding issue, and that either she or I had taken things out of context and "that has caused me some additional issues."
So he was now blaming me for his lack of payment. Charming.

I replied and Cc:ed Renay, saying that all I had told her was about the funding issue and that he'd said that this issue might come up.

John replied to this email, saying that now he wasn't want to work with RHI at all because Renay was "demanding" things (which were standard RHI policy, like, you know, getting paid, and assigning a liaison for the pickup of personal effects).

What he didn't realize, which made me very, very happy, was that he also Cc:ed Renay.

So now it's my fault he Cc:ed Renay too! And my fault he doesn't understand what the DMCA does and doesn't cover!

This is great. Very Happy

Oh, so I guess it goes without saying that this puts him firmly past 1mCecil.

(Long-time readers may recall that about 3 months after I left Dr. Cecil's employ he threatened to sue me for slander because I called him an asshole.)

Hm, I think I'll finally bring over the Dr. Cecil diaries from the old weblog, so that people understand where this whole μCecil thing comes from.
#2641 06/07/2004 10:05 pm I was wondering.
( Like the new color scheme too )

I was actually wondering when he'd start blaming you. He has brilliant grammar and typing skills too.

The verbatim quotes of his are actually some of the more literate things he's written. I don't want to quote things directly for fear of becoming totally unbelievable.

Oh, and one of the funny things is that no matter what, he always misspells Renay's name as "Rene." Sure, "Renay" isn't a very common spelling of it, but you'd think that he'd get the clue after everyone else is always spelling it correctly, including Renay. (And anyway, it's usually spelled René which is often transliterated Renee or similar. FWIW, the OSX spelling checker recognizes Renee but not Rene.)

Reminds me of a shithead boss who let me go with no warning in the middle of a project (probably because I refused to back him up when his wife commented on his unethical business practices) and then three weeks later tried to say I was liable for all bugfixes. The idiot wanted me to finish the project for free!

Heh. John at least had the decency to blame me for a bunch of bugs which I must have put in at the last minute and then said that he hired someone else to fix them anyway.

I feel sorry for whoever that is.

Wish I'd happend upon this last year -- I could've saved you some
time and effort in coming to your conclusions on John. It took me
several meetings with Social Security and IRS folks to straighten out
the issues caused when he withheld FICA, but never paid the government.

I was glad to hear you're gainfully employed.

Huh.

Mind if I ask how it is that you've dealt with John in the past? And how you know that this is the same John? Very Happy

Email is probably better, for obvious reasons. magenta at trikuare.cx
