The best bagel ever (food, travels)
Or at least the best bagel I'd ever had.
Sourdough bagel, with corned beef, pastrami, swiss cheese and coleslaw. It's also the best corned beef and pastrami I've ever had. I was on the verge of tears because it was so good. Seriously. But, you know, trying to blend in and stuff.
Also, it probably says something about New Yorkers' love for food when the hotel TV has Food Network.
Does anyone have any recommendations of things to do instead of just wandering around downtown Manhattan though? I mean, I don't really know my way around and Craigslist doesn't seem to be very handy, and just wandering around got kinda old. Though it was interesting to see how many people here really do just wander around while listening to their iPod, holding on to it in their hand like a fashion accessory. (A lot!)
Mostly, being such a "small town" folk, I'm kinda paranoid about the big scary city at night. :D My interview isn't until 3 PM tomorrow, so I'll probably spend the morning in central park or something. After that I'll hopefully be able to meet up with a friend or two of mine who are in Brooklyn (they don't know each other AFAIK though), though I've had a hard time getting a response from any of them.
Okay, now this is kinda funny... on TV there was just a "New Mexico board of tourism" ad trying to coax all the busy crowded New Yorkers out to NM. It made it seem like all of New Mexico was the laid-back happy cheerful pueblos, where people could ride their bicycles all over the desert with nary a care in the world, while looking at all the smiling, hard-working native and hispanic folk. They even made governor Richardson seem like a rustic kinda guy to complete the image.
