Go Fluffy! (and if you need a tester for DS stuff.... Wink )
Good luck in the grand housing hunt!

Congratulations, Fluffy. I kinda stumbled upon your blog...somehow, I don't even remember. I think I was googling something code-related and found your coding or geekery section. But I've been following this for a week or two now and I think you would've been a fool to turn it down. That's so fantastic, I love big cities and I think you'll love NYC. I agree about the salary in NYC, but the job will be a HUGE stepping stone. Huge.

BTW, I've been admiring your skill just making this site and have looked at the css quite a bit (as well as your how-to for implementing phpbb and MT...and your coding sections)...I'm impresed, I really am. You sound young and it's encouraging to see another young CS person that actually knows their stuff and doesn't just brag about how good their "skillz" are at VB. As a matter of fact, whenever I start digging through your code, I often find myself thinking you're probably much smarter than I am. In all seriousness, you deserve that job and more. Best of luck to you.

That is awesome. RADICAL, even.

Or perhaps just really great. Well done! Too bad about the NDAs, I'd love to hear about the dating sim. Smile

Popping off the stack. (I just spent the last 5 hours hanging out with Roymond, though it only seemed like two.)

pts:

Hey, I haven't signed anything yet! Wink And I can tell people the following about the DS (most of which people already know anyway):

It has two CPUs in it, an ARM7 and an ARM9. The ARM7 is primarily used for GBA mode, but apparently it can also be used in parallel to the ARM9.

The graphics chip is a strict superset of the GBA graphics chip; it still supports chargen-based tiling, but it also adds much better framebuffer support, and also has rudimentary in-hardware 3D. (I'm already thinking of ways of abusing it, like by using the ARM7 as a coprocessor to the graphics chip...)

Okay, so that's the extent of what I know about the NDS. But I also got some interesting information about the PSP (which some of the UbiSoft studios already have prototypes of, though the NY one doesn't), namely that its CPU speed is on-par with the PS2, it has twice as much memory bandwidth, and since the screen only has 1/4 as many pixels, it's quite likely that the overall perceived power of the PSP will be quite a bit more than the PS2. On the other hand, no word on whether it has that funky cluster-of-fast-vector-processors architecture, so it might have to do all the vertex processing etc. in software. Still, it should be a very interesting system, and I can't wait to develop for it too. Very Happy

Kylector:

Thanks. I'm horrible at taking compliments graciously so I'll just leave it at that. Smile Though I don't feel all that young. (I'm 26 now.) There's a lot of things in my life which I'd expected to have taken care of by the time I was 20. But NYC certainly opens up some of those doors for me. (Subject of which coming in an upcoming comic, of course.)

Anonymous guest:

QA is on an in-house temporary-hire basis. Sorry. Unless you live in NYC, in which case, keep your eyes open since I'll probably be posting when we need testers. Smile

Incidentally, I saw the production schedule for the dating sim. It's rather... aggressive, but out of necessity. The content development will take place at a clip of two scenes per week (I don't know how linear it'll be, though), and ostensibly I'd be developing the NDS engine in parallel to that. It could be very interesting. Anyway, content will be complete by August 20, and then it enters the QA phase until September 17, when it will hopefully be done. Somewhere in there I'll try to sneak in an easter egg. So keep your Konami code motor memory ready. Wink

Yeah. Fortunately they're paying for my hotel room while I look for an apartment. Tonight I totally fell in love with Williamsburg — it's nice and quiet and relaxed and yet still trés chíc with plenty of night life, and it looks a lot like Boston.

You already HAVE a job. Jeeze.

I sympathize with not taking compliments well--I'm the same way. Congrats again.
#3007 07/08/2004 12:02 pm w00t!
Welcome to the working world, you poor bastard.
#3008 07/08/2004 12:31 pm
Hopefully this one will turn out better than my last few jobs. Smile
#3010 07/08/2004 06:57 pm Willaimsburg.....
Isn't that where the Hasidic Jews also live? I heard a story on This American Life concerning that.
#3012 07/08/2004 09:05 pm
Hasidic jews are all over New York. There's a concentrated pocket in Williamsburg but I actually didn't see any there (but I saw plenty in Manhattan). Reports of turf wars are greatly exaggerated.

Though if I move there and a Hasidic Jew gives me grief, I can point out two things:

1. I'm Jewish
2. Now they know how the Palestinians feel
