Much better ()

I think we should just realize that people have their specialties, and when they know what they're doing we shouldn't waste time debating with them.

— James, in response to Antoine spending about two hours arguing with me about a window-drawing mechanism he couldn't wrap his mind around

I've suddenly gained a lot of respect for him — he actually does know where his knowledge is lacking, and actually does want to learn!

Antoine, however, is as stubborn as a mule. A very French mule. Whatever happened to the French being complacent surrender-monkeys?

I spent 12 months of my last gig working with an entire office of French developers. Very bright people, they were. The worst of them could code circles around all but our very best programmers on this side of the pond.

But try to get them to listen to what you're saying? That was an exercise in futility even for the ones that were fluent in English.

It's not just that. The thing that pisses me off the most is that Antoine has this way of making a good case for changing something (like the memory allocation), and then when I do change it and then realize that we can take it one step further, he says something like "Why are you doing that? Weren't you the one who was insisting that we [old position which was now invalidated by Antoine's stubbornness]?"

It's like I'm not allowed to take a new mindset, and have to only settle on "a compromise" (meaning, his way) and go no further.

Very aggravating.
