According to my first paystub:
  • FICA: 7.65%
  • Federal withholdings: 16%
  • New York State: 5.2%
  • New York district: 0.05%
  • Manhattan: 3%

NY state doesn't take out like 23 cents a pay to fund Unemeployment Compensation?

I'm assuming it was rolled into some of the other 38%.

Like I said in another entry, I'm amazed at how much taxes are here considering how little service the government seems to actually provide. I mean, you'd think that all of these taxes would be used for things like, say, helping the homeless, or subsidizing the MTA or rent or something. But no, New York seems to be all about the hentai-style multidirectional shafting.

Oh well. I'm way happier here than I was in NM, so it's an even trade. Smile

Oh, and on the plus side, at least this year I'll probably get a pretty big refund since I'll have only made half a years' worth of income in NY (and I only had two months in NM)
