Argh ()

trikuare.cx is up for renewal at the end of this year.

.cx domains used to be really cheap, which was one of the many reasons I went with one. But now they're US$38/year! (Not to mention their policies have changed dramatically.)

I might be moving to another domain soon. Meh.

(Yeah, I know, it's only $38, but it's still the principle of the matter.)

What's the point if they're not cheaper than .com/.net/.org?

I dunno. Captive audience, maybe? They still have better anonymity/privacy than the .com/net/org TLDs too. Whoever at ICANN mandated public WHOIS apparently has never gotten any spam, telemarketing, or threatening phone calls.

Originally it was just a thank you to the open source world, but I think goatse put them off being free a bit, so I guess they just want to use them for people who have a Christmas Islands connection.

Sure, but they haven't been free for years, and like, why have the rates gone up so high? It used to be like $17-20/year, which I was willing to pay. Now it's like $38ish, which is getting on the upper boundary of that, and that's only because changing my domain at this point wold be a major undertaking. I can't imagine them getting any new business at this pricepoint.
