Time Warner Cable finally got back to me (customer experience)
<CSR> Hi, you put in an order for digital cable and high-speed Internet? On a related note, last night I called T-Mobile to ask if I could get online via my computer if I signed up for the $5 T-Zones service again, and had my first bad T-Mobile CSR experience. The guy was utterly clueless and was all like, "Um, no, you can't get online through your cellphone, unless you use it like a modem and dial up to a regular dialup ISP." And I was like, "Um, actually, I have several friends who use T-Mobile's GPRS connection to get online, and I was just wondering if I had to get the $20/month service for that or if the $5/month service would do it too." And he was like, "Um, no, you can't do that." And I was like, "Um, yes you can, and actually I was using the free 'download ringtones' GPRS connection for the last month without a problem," and then the CSR was like, "Um, that's not possible to do, so the system must have caught up to you doing something impossible and stopped it," and I was like, "Okay, whatever," and so I just ordered the $5/month service through their WAP interface anyway. I haven't had a chance to test it on my computer yet, though.<fluffy> Yeah, about a week ago. Since you guys took so long to get back to me I just ordered DSL yesterday. Sorry.
<CSR> What about the digital cable?
<fluffy> Sorry, I only wanted cable TV if I was already going to be paying you guys too much for crappy brodband anyway.
<CSR> Oh. Have a good day.
Oh, and like, I already downgraded my service from the 600 anytime/unlimited weekend plan to the 300 anytime/unlimited weekend plan ($30/month) and so even if this GPRS connectin doesn't work for me, I'm still spending like $5 less, and I plan on getting a Symbian phone (probably an N-Gage QD, since it's cheaper and also has some pretty interesting games available now) soonish and t-zones would actually be useful on one of those.
(And if it does work, I'll definitely keep it, since so far it's been way more convenient than the surprisingly craptacular WiFi options around here.)
Oh, hey, cool! You can actually make these service changes on the "My T-Mobile" site now! No need to deal with the idiot CSRs they stock at 10:30 at night.
