I LOVE that game! But I'm not very good at it so I can really only play a level after Lago unlocks "eternal mode" for me. Oh and I love the music in that game too but there is something kind of disturbing about simultaneously hearing the happy la-la-la music and the screams of the people as they get rolled over. Fun yet creepy!
The cognitive dissonance between the music and the gameplay is one of its many many charms. Not to mention how all of the songs are about the game, though most of them are in Japanese so I only know this because they use the word "katamari" a lot.
I especially love that one lounge-jazz song... "Wad up to me, (something something) in my life / Let's roll up to be a single star in the sky"
Yeah I like that one too! When I heard it I was thinking how appropriate the lyrics were considering the fact that you're making stars in the game. I never thought that the rest of the songs might be related too (since I can't understand Japanese). Interesting! I think I still like the la-la-la one with the kids singing the best though.
On the other hand, the "official" name is a misspelling too - apparently, the proper transliteration is "Katamari Tamashii." Which literally means "soul bundle." And is also a visual pun because both words look almost identical in Kanji, leading me to believe that Namco came up with the name before the game.

On the other hand, this is now the second result for "Katamary Damacy".
