Man, now I'm all paranoid ()

by fluffy at 3:44 PM
Someone at work was reading a bunch of my weblog yesterday from 10:30 AM to 8:10 PM. It was probably Jason but it could have been Antoine or James. I guess I'll probably find out on Monday.

(Incidentally, it was originally found through someone else's weblog post, where a kuro5hin acquaintence had linked his coworker to my weblog, on a writeup of Sprung which Google ranks very highly now. I wish he hadn't done that, but oh well.)

Sorry. I would have removed the link at your request. Not that it would have helped much: blog entries are copied the instant I post them, by services beyond my control (mainly through RSS). This has led me to do a lot more proof-reading before I hit the post button...

Well, it's the Google indexed page which everyone found it through. Like, that page of yours gets a pretty high search result for "Ubisoft Sprung" and so when people (e.g. at work) search on those specific phrases, they see a link to my weblog. RSS has nothing to do with it in this case.

True. For some reason my blog (or perhaps all blogs?) gets pretty high results in Google. But if it hadn't been that, there still would have been copies of my post lying around, because of blog lines, blo.gs, and other services like that.

Yeah, but they wouldn't have had the pagerank-grabbing filename that your entry's permalink had. Very Happy
#4192 01/09/2005 05:55 am I've felt the same way
Ever since my wife started reading my online diaries, I've felt the need to self censor what I write.

If note the IP address from your Apache logs, can't you compare them to headers from email you've gotten from your cow orkers to figure out who (or at least what machine) was viewing your blog.

No, we're all behind a single NATed IP address at work.

Meh. It seems that Kuroshin is still causing trouble after all this time Sad

Unfortunately, links to the most colorful entries are probably going to spread, and my microCecil gauge went off the scale and broke Sad Good luck tomorrow.

Not K5, just one particular K5er who wasn't acting maliciously and was just posting a "oh by the way" thing on a related weblog entry, and I totally don't blame him for it. I really should have just followed my first instinct and asked the weblog owner to remove the link, but for some reason that idea was setting off my hypocrite gauge so I didn't.
