I'm totally in Chicago right now ()

by fluffy at 10:10 AM
I'm also totally sick with a respiratory infection. Yay!

I'm staying at my grandpa's house, along with three of my cousins (and their mom), two of whom I haven't seen in about 12 years. I barely recognize them (and by "barely" I mean "don't") though I can tell them apart at least.

My dinner with fEk ()

by fluffy at 1:54 AM
So, on the way from Cupertino to Santa Clara I lost track of how many stops I had to go. (The answer was two.) I ended up going all the way to San José (which, admittedly, is only a little bit further), and had to take the next train back (half an hour later). It's not like I was in any huge hurry, though; I still arrived in Santa Clara at 4 PM when fEk wasn't even going to get off work until 5.

My lunch with Snej ()

by fluffy at 8:06 PM
So, today I've been exploring the Santa Clara Valley all by my lonesome. Right now I'm sitting on the curb near fEk's house, waiting for him to get home from work so we can go do stuff. I haven't seen him in like 6 years!

Guess who's moving to Seattle? ()

by fluffy at 5:45 PM
Probably me!

Supplies limited ()

by fluffy at 3:27 AM
My time in San Francisco is quickly running out. Don't delay, act today!

  • Friday: Interview all morning, meeting up with Yook (and maybe some other Songfighters) for dinner UPDATE: No plans! No plans! But I'll probably be doing stuff with my sister
  • Saturday: Passover
  • Sunday: FREE
  • Monday: FREE particularly for lunch in Cupertino (hint hint)
  • Tuesday: I leave!

Happy lunch adventure ()

by fluffy at 1:41 PM
Yesterday I met ucblockhead for lunch and had Cuban food. Then my sister and I took a long walk to the library and back. (I walked a total of 6 miles - one mile to and from the train to meet ucblockhead, and 5 miles with my sister. And of course, San Francisco is so hilly.)

Muni people are assholes. Especially their customer service. Meh. I never realized how good the MTA was until now.

Anyway. Tonight I'm meeting a friend for dinner, Friday midday I have the interview, Saturday is passover, and Tuesday I leave for Chicago. So that just leaves midday today, tomorrow, Sunday, Monday, and Friday evening for meeting up with people who want to meet up with me.

Changing shortcut keys ()

by fluffy at 10:54 PM
Am I crazy? I'm pretty sure Safari's "view source" shortcut key used to be cmd-option-V (which made sense), not cmd-option-U (which doesn't).

Santa Cruz is pretty ()

by fluffy at 11:08 PM
Took a bunch of pictures. Nice weather.

On the agenda for tomorrow: lunch with ucblockhead.

Nothing scheduled for Wednesday or Thursday yet (though one of those nights, Yook and I might go out to a club or something). Friday is the interesting interview with the interested recruiter; she even wants me to show up an hour before I'm scheduled to talk with the client to meet me personally!

Nothing set for Saturday thru next Monday either. Tuesday I'm off to Chicago.

More comment spam tricks ()

by fluffy at 3:16 PM
Lately I've been getting lots of attempts at comment spam from people who are manually posting, which of course no anti-spam measure can ever deal with. Only a few get through, though, and each one which gets through only makes my solution more complete.

Halloooo from California ()

by fluffy at 4:04 AM
I'm at my sister's place. Whee.

(Oh also my sister reads my weblog. Everyone say hi!)

Asexuality is the new bisexuality ()

by fluffy at 9:52 AM
I had a pretty long and complex dream last night.

Insurance fucking sucks ()

by fluffy at 7:20 PM
So, now that I'm unemployed, I need to get health insurance so that I have no gaps in my coverage, or else it'll become really difficult to get covered for my fairly serious pre-existing conditions (namely asthma and carpal tunnel syndrome).

Travel ()

by fluffy at 1:46 PM
Hey everyone! I will be doing some travel very soon. Specifically, I will be in San Francisco from April 16 until April 26 (visiting friends and family, and also a job interview on the 22nd), and then in Chicago from April 26 until May 2 (for my cousin's wedding). The Chicago leg won't have much free time for meeting up with people, but the San Francisco leg should be great. Hooray!

Stupid phone tricks ()

by fluffy at 11:04 PM
Since I have QuickTime Pro, I can export movies in 3GPP format.

The N-Gage plays 3GPP video.

One typical 40-minute episode of a typical TV show (like Iron Chef) transcodes to about 22MB. I have 128MB of storage on the N-Gage.

Just so you know ()

by fluffy at 10:51 PM
I am in no way bummed about this situation. I posted my resume to monster.com and within hours was already getting a nice trickle of "Hey I saw your resume on monster.com, and I thought you were a good match for this position." Some of these are extremely promising indeed, and are much more in-line with my interests.

The funny thing is that I really was on the verge of quitting anyway — I was waiting for the current game to be finished, because I have a sense of loyalty and didn't want to leave anyone in a lurch.

Some lighter news ()

by fluffy at 5:57 PM
Today, after leaving work, I wandered towards Central Park. On the way I came across a cafe/deli called "Fluffy's Café." I will probably go back tomorrow with my camera, and have lunch there.

I've escaped ()

by fluffy at 2:00 PM
As of today I am no longer employed. (Add me to the list of people fired for blogging.)

The rest of this entry and its comments are friends-only. Sorry, general public.

I am kinda hung over right now ()

by fluffy at 5:19 PM
Last night's Frontalot show was excellent. I got there after the opening band finished, and met up with the good MC (and introduced Neill to him as he showed up just after me) as his friend Brandon of Emerald Rain Productions was setting up for his mini-set. Which was awesome.

Then the good MC did his thing (with Brandon on bass and sampler, and Brandon's drummer Dan on, well, drums), though it was a fairly short set, with Crime Spree, Message 419, a medley of Special Delivery and My Sister, Braggadocio, Nerdcore Hiphop, and closed with Yellow Lasers (which was awesome because he did his usual "That's it for tonight" fake ending and then people were shouting out "ONE MORE SONG!!!" and I shouted "YELLOW LASERS!" and then Brandon started its signature bassline. Not that I influenced that at all, just that I guessed which one they were going to do for an encore since any Frontalot set without Yellow Lasers is not a Frontalot set.

RIP, Karol Wojtyla ()

by fluffy at 3:27 PM
Karol Wojtyla (a.k.a. Pope John Paul II) died about an hour ago. According to the news, he actually refused medical treatment for this last bout, and just wanted to be closer to God at this point. So I can't help but feel some last-minute respect for him.

Day log ()

by fluffy at 1:59 AM
  • Had a nice long unproductive day at work
  • After work, went to a bar with bunches of coworkers
  • After having a drink there, followed coworkers to another bar where we had dinner and more drinks
  • After dinner and meeting up with another coworker (while losing two of the coworkers who had prior engagements), followed coworkers to ANOTHER bar where we met up with Ed, who promptly started to say how great my comic was and give details and now all the other coworkers want to see my comic (argh damnit)
  • Somewhere along the line, lost my favorite sweater. Gnar. (I'll call both of the bars tomorrow but I have a feeling that right now it's going to pretty good use keeping a homeless person warm, at least.)
  • After that, went to see Sin City. All the coworkers had already bought their tickets earlier. I lucked out and got the second-to-last ticket available. Score.

MC Frontalot in Brooklyn ()

by fluffy at 4:14 PM
To everyone in the New York metro area: My good acquaintence MC Frontalot is having a show tomorrow night (April 2, 2005) at a bar in Brooklyn (C'Fizz aka The Collymoore, at 18 Putnam Ave). $5 cover, $2 beers. I will be there (in the audience, not performing), as will Neill (probably). So all you crazy Internet stalkers can get a triple dose of awesome. (Mostly because Front is worth a double dose and then you can round up the partial incremental doses that Neill and I would provide.)
