I am kinda hung over right now ()

by fluffy at 5:19 PM
Last night's Frontalot show was excellent. I got there after the opening band finished, and met up with the good MC (and introduced Neill to him as he showed up just after me) as his friend Brandon of Emerald Rain Productions was setting up for his mini-set. Which was awesome.

Then the good MC did his thing (with Brandon on bass and sampler, and Brandon's drummer Dan on, well, drums), though it was a fairly short set, with Crime Spree, Message 419, a medley of Special Delivery and My Sister, Braggadocio, Nerdcore Hiphop, and closed with Yellow Lasers (which was awesome because he did his usual "That's it for tonight" fake ending and then people were shouting out "ONE MORE SONG!!!" and I shouted "YELLOW LASERS!" and then Brandon started its signature bassline. Not that I influenced that at all, just that I guessed which one they were going to do for an encore since any Frontalot set without Yellow Lasers is not a Frontalot set.

After that, Mathematicians played. They were another nerdcore band, sort of a cross between a nerdy Korn and a nerdier Devo. They were quite good, and had an excellent floor presence (in lieu of a stage); they went out into the crowd and made it very interactive. At one point the lead singer shoved the microphone in my face during the chorus of one song ("Input/Output") and I totally didn't shout "OUTPUT!" like he was expecting. He looked kinda disappointed but then he moved on to other people who actually knew what the hell to expect. I bought their CD, in any case.

After that, a bunch of us went to Front's apartment for an after-party. It took a while to gear up, but it was a lot of fun. It was mostly just talking and listening to music, and just generally chilling, which is my favorite kind of party, especially when there's conversations I can join in on.

Anyway, the damage to my liver was:

  • At the club, one Red Stripe (first time I'd had it... yummy!) and one Boston Pilsner (first time I'd had that too)
  • At Front's apartment, one "pompeii" (rum and some sort of citrus/peach juice mix) and another Red Stripe
That's way more than I normally drink. But then I also didn't leave the party until 5AM (after daylight savings had kicked in; 4AM biological time) and was pretty wasted, and then the only subway service near Front's apartment didn't do anything even close to approaching my apartment even if the L line were running. I ended up taking a 2 into Manhattan, transferring to the J, finding out the J was running weird because it was under construction too, had to transfer to a J which was running on the F track (which was about a half an hour wait), then it eventually got back on the J track and went above ground, which is good because then I could bother fEk by IMing him to stay awake while waiting for the transfer to the M. Then the M transfer took another half an hour (and it was outside and in the cold) and I kept on feeling like I was going to puke or pass out, and the sun was already rising. Finally the M came and then three stops later I stumbled off, nearly fell down the escalator back to ground level, and got home, posted on Front's pseudo-private fans-only forum about the show and the party at 6:38, then passed out.

Fortunately, I didn't have any trouble finding my pants when I woke up today at 1 PM, somewhat hung over.

Anyway, at 3 I went to the laundromat (being about a week behind on laundry) and it was the usual huge Sunday crowd of parents doing laundry while not paying attention to their bratty rotten loin-fruits, which didn't help my hangover any. One parent actually (OMG) chastised his kids for running around ("What do you think this is, a park?! Cut that shit out!") and so at least two of the kids there were behaving. Too bad the other 23572398572952 were still total annoying brats. Then again, their parents weren't much better either, all gabbing on their cellphones about how bratty their friends' kids are.

One notable moment of the party: Dan was talking about how that day was the first time he'd actually seen a PS2, and his wife mentioned that "funny game where you roll a ball around." So Front and I started singing the Katamari Damacy theme in a spontaneous duet. That was cool.

I wonder what a mash-up of Yellow Lasers with Blue Signal would sound like.

532nm Beacon?

heh, at one point someone joked about how "the rainbow domination is almost complete" based on how many titles have had a color in them.

Frontalot was fun to watch but Christ, 5 AM? I'm actually kinda glad I left early.

Just as you left early from the show, you could have left early from the party, which I'd imagine would have happened since I don't think there'd have been anything for you to talk about with the people there.

Which... is kinda why I left early from the show. I was just there to see Frontalot anyway (and on the off chance some other people from work would be there, which didn't pan out).

Is a damn fine song.
#5178 04/04/2005 09:37 am Great music
Nah....nah nah-nah nah nah nah nah... haha. I LOVE the music from the Katamari Damacy game. My two favorite songs are “Lonely Rolling Star” and “Cherry Blossom Color Season.” Which ones do you like best? Well I was just catching up on reading your entries and it sounds like you had a fun weekend! I wish there were more fun live bands to go see and more useful modes of public transportation to take around where I live. I don’t envy you when it comes to the laundromat situation though. 23572398572952 - wow that’s a lot of kids!

daylight-saving time. like dog-walking time, or fluffy-beating time.

I visited New York City briefly, once, and I think there's a lot of things I wouldn't like about living there... but man, it would be SO awesome to be able to see The Front live. Very Happy

Front told me he's actually moving to Boston in September.
