My dinner with fEk ()

by fluffy at 1:54 AM
So, on the way from Cupertino to Santa Clara I lost track of how many stops I had to go. (The answer was two.) I ended up going all the way to San José (which, admittedly, is only a little bit further), and had to take the next train back (half an hour later). It's not like I was in any huge hurry, though; I still arrived in Santa Clara at 4 PM when fEk wasn't even going to get off work until 5.

So I walked to his house from the Caltrain station (only about a mile), and took a nice shortcut through the University of Santa Clara campus, which was kinda pretty but had a lot of religious overtones, what with being a Jesuit college.

Anyway, so I walked to fEk's house, and was surprised at how few businesses there were (the last overtly commercial things I saw were the Starbucks and Quizno's at the Caltrain station). At about 4:45 I made it to his place, and sat on the curb to write a weblog entry, which terminated with me seeing fEk's boyfriend Andy getting home from work. I decided to just wander around the neighborhood until fEk got home (rather than disturb Andy since he looked a bit angry, and also because I'm an introverted social reject and so on).

Anyway, fEk eventually got home, and we sat around and chatted a bunch, while each of us did our obligatory daily weblog/comic/etc. reading and also caught up on MUCKs and also chatted with various others to coordinate a big social outing.

Other people trickled in, and eventually 7 people (me, fEk, Andy, their housemate, two of their friends, and my/fEk's friend Kreggan/Kyreeth, who I hadn't met in person before) went to a pretty good Japanese restaurant which was just down the street. Much mirth and merriment were had by all, and the food was quite good. I had the beef teriyaki bento combo. There was lots of chatting about jobs and so on, and about how my new job was just extremely lucky with the time-table especially with how I managed to get fired at just the right time.

Then we made our way back to fEk's place, and chatted more. I noticed it was getting a bit late, and mentioned that I'd brought the latest Lemon Jelly music video album and that it was about an hour long and if we wanted to all watch it we'd have to start now (since the last train left at 10:30). So, fEk said, "Sure, we can pop it in," and popped it in. So then for the nest 50 minutes we kept on chatting and commenting on the videos and otherwise just having a good time. It was great.

Anyway, then it was time to get going, and so we exchanged parting words and so on. People wished me luck at my new job, and said I needed to come down to the Bay Area again and so on. I said, "Sure, next time I'm between jobs after getting fired for blogging!" and one of the two friends (I think his name was Russ) was like, "Really? Was there a scandal?" and I was like, "Yeah," and described the circumstances surrounding my firing. He said, "Wow, you really know how to get fired!"

Anyway. Now it's 10:52 PM and I have 1:10 left until I get back to the San Francisco Caltrain station. Then it's time to finally separate my clothes from my sister's (we did our last wash together) and get packed and ready for the Chicago portion of the trip.

'Bye, South Bay! *mwah*
