Language reference ()

by fluffy at 3:19 PM
Does anyone have any good resources for learning foreign languages? There's an awful lot of Canadians here and I feel like I should learn the language they speak to me so I can understand them better.

:D

You mean a year or two of talking to me and you still don't understand us Canuckleheads?

The vocabulary is the same, it's the pronunciation which throws me.

<fluffy> Well, the "easiest" way to do that is to take the cross product of the two basis vectors, only just set Z to 0.
<Brad> Then I look at the result's zed value?
<fluffy> Buh... er... yeah. The Z value.
<Brad> Yes, zed.

I'm posting this comment from a hotel in downtown Quebec, and you think YOUR new job has a language barrier?

Ha ha, Quebecois!

No no, you have that backwards. It's the Quebecois that point their fingers and laugh at me. And only when I'm not looking.

Heh, I'm Canadian and I don't ever recall pronouncing it "zed" ;p

Actually, I feel silly whenever I pronounce 'Z' as 'zee.' No offense, but I think it sounds dumb, like something that came out of Texas. The English even say it as Zed, and since it is their language, after all, that must be the way it's pronounced.

Traitor. :p Don't allow yourself to be "Americanised."

To me, 'zed' sounds silly, like the name of a villain in a bad sci-fi movie.
