I have the best coworkers ever ()

by fluffy at 5:53 PM
Today, Kevin (my team lead) went to Ikea at lunchtime to pick up some furniture. I wanted to go along with him to have lunch at their cafeteria, but I couldn't since being on-call means needing to always be within 15 minutes of Internet access.

So when Kevin came back, he brought me a present: a big ol' bag of frozen swedish meatballs. :)

I'm so jealous that you get to live by Ikea--in NYC and now Seattle. Closest one to me is 3 hours, and after I move the closest will be about 15 hours.

Envious.

Happy for you and your job/coworkers, though. Smile

Eh, I don't really care about Ikea, aside from their food. Smile The Amazon cafeteria is way better on the "high-end gourmet food, cheap" metric, anyway... but the bag of meatballs was extremely nice to get. I just had some for dinner. Smile

You can also buy online or by phone. Of course, shipping charges will make it worthless if you're trying to buy large and heavy things.

I don't see what's so great about their furniture. Even as far as cheap stuff goes it's pretty horrid. You're usually better off just going to yard sales or Craigslist. Razz

Yeah, I've actually bought a couple small things from them over the phone. But you're right: big things are massively expensive to ship, and that prohibits me from getting the bed frame I want from them. Oh well, for the same price as it would cost to buy and ship from Ikea, I can get a very nice one locally.

But thanks anyway. In case you or anyone else isn't aware, just because an item isn't available on their website doesn't mean it's not available via the phone.

Ikea sells food? WTF? Is it made of particle board?

If you've ever been to an Ikea you'd know how silly that question is. The food is the only thing which makes Ikea worthwhile, IMO. Smile

I have been to an Ikea before, but it was a long time ago, like 5-6 years ago, when they were a furniture store that just sold, y'know, furniture.

Don't forget the knick-knacks and whatnot! Very Happy
Their furniture design is horrid, you're right. But it's the little things that count, like 100 tea lites for a couple of bucks.

Okay, yeah, their tealights and tealight holders are very nice. And some of their glassware and dishes (if you need a LOT of nice-looking stuff for a party for example). But unless you have a specific need for a lot of that kind of thing you can usually find just as good and nearly as cheap stuff at Target or Bed Bath and Beyond, without having to go out to BFE where sales tax is cheap or whatever.
