Timing (, )

by fluffy at 11:21 PM
Argh, if I'd waited a couple more weeks to order my Mac Mini, I could have gotten it with a DVD-RW drive and more base RAM for the same price.

Not that it matters much, since I don't really have much need for a DVD burner, and the base RAM would still not be enough for me (so I'd still have to replace it with a 1GB DIMM — the mini only has a single RAM slot), but it's the principle of the matter. :P (Or alternatively I could have gotten the same configuration as I ended up with for $100 less.)

Maybe I should have paid more attention to the rumors that the mini was about to get an upgrade. Oh well.

UPDATE: I called Apple Sales Support, and they refunded me the difference. Woo! (The CSR had to fight tooth and nail for it, though; apparently her manager was insistent on giving me the refund based on the normal price, not based on the EPP discount that I originally bought it under. Although it's annoying that the CSR had to fight for it, the fact that she did — without me having to go through a lot of grief — makes me proud to be an Apple customer. I can't imagine anyone at Dell doing that.)

And if you'd waited a little longer, you could get it with more RAM and features. Unless you expect technology to stop any time soon, buy what you need and don't worry that it'll be cheaper and faster the next day.

Yeah yeah etc. I'm just annoyed at the particular timing here, but I realize that's how things are.

It's inevitable.

When I bought my Clie, I was all excited about it. Then a week after I got it, my company annouced a new one, with the next version of Palm OS, a speed increase from 20mhz to 200mhz and support for memory sticks over 128mb.

I was a bit peeved. It's still a great little thing but if I'd only waited a couple weeks, it'd have been even better.

Yeah. And it's always too much trouble to do a product return and buy a new one, or in some cases it's not even possible because the return period is usually the same length as the rebate period, so you can't just go like 'okay I'll wait 30 days and then cut out the UPC for the rebate.'

In this case it's not even a capability change, just a price change (either $100 less for the same hardware, or the same price for a DVD-ROM, which would have normally cost $100 more). Well, aside from the RAM, but 512MB still isn't enough for what I'm going to do with the system anyway.
#6107 07/28/2005 09:41 pm Should Apple reduce its price
"Should Apple reduce its price on any shipped product within 10 calendar days of shipment, you may contact Apple Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775 to request a refund or credit of the difference between the price you were charged and the current selling price. To receive the refund or credit you must contact Apple within 14 business days of shipment." link

Think this used to be 30, or at least it was for Gateway in 1998 or so, when I first heard of the policy, heh.

You have quite a roll going on unfortunately Outmodded Hardware,

Hey, wow, I didn't know about that. Thanks!

Eh, I knew Tapwave was halting production of the Zodiac (they'd actually announced that months ago). I didn't get the thing for gaming, I got it for PalmOS, and it was cheaper than a Tungsten.

Yay discount!

I would be typing an apple symbol (Unicode F8FF) followed by a heart (Unicode 2665), but apparently phpBB doesn't like Unicode one bit.
#6116 07/30/2005 06:31 pm
Well, hearts should be ♥ (♥) assuming I installed the entity-enabling patch correctly.

U+F8FF would be  () but it's a vendor extension and not a standard Unicode symbol.
#6118 07/30/2005 08:02 pm
Ah, forgot about that silly 'x'.

So, yes.  ♥ !
