A really cool thing about Spotlight ()

by fluffy at 8:20 PM
I hadn't really anticipated this, but Spotlight's indexing is actually really useful. For example, all of the text in all of my comics is indexed, so if I need to find what particular comic someone says something in, I can just do a Spotlight search on it.

Awesome.

Also, the screen capture commands now put out PNGs instead of annoying-to-use PDFs. Woo.

Must ask: What's the nonstandard menu extra / status item you've got up there?

I can only dream of those features in linux (aka kde/gnu/linux). It's coming, it's coming...

Another really cool thing: I installed iTunes-LAME and it immediately showed up in my iTunes Applescript menu. The really cool thing is that my iTunes Applescript menu didn't even exist until I installed iTunes-LAME, but the instant I installed it, the menu popped into existence and worked! And it's not that iTunes-LAME's installer notified iTunes of the new plugin, because iTunes-LAME's installer is just the instructions, "Drag this into your iTunes/Applescript folder."

♥ filesystem-level event notification

Yup, kqueue is great. Surprisingly easy to use, actually. man kqueue for details. It's even got some handy general-purpose features, like "notify me when this file gets written to".

If you put that plaintext on your comic strip pages too, Google could index all your text as well.

Yes, I know.
