Apparently, the problem was that the track wasn't originally set to curve like that when the station was on Pike, but they moved the station a couple blocks and had to refit the tracks, and when they did they couldn't keep them spaced far apart enough to make it so both trains could go by at the same time. And last night, there was a miscommunication or scheduling mistake or something which caused both trains to go by at the same time.
I heard the train's horn (from one driver trying to warn the other) and the subsequent emergency vehicle activity, but didn't realize what was going on until a few hours later when it was on the news.
