Work in progress: I LOVE YOU +5years ()

by fluffy at 02:12 PM
Songfight has been around for over 5 years now, and there's a sidebar column "5 years ago this week" which showcases the fight from 5 years ago. Very soon my first fight will be going up, so I'm working on a little celebration of that.

Early preview for friends. :)

(update) I think it's done now. Next up: Repair My Heart (working on a few different ideas for it)

Good to be home ()

by fluffy at 07:57 PM
So, I seem to have survived a week at home with minimal computer access, though my wrists don't really feel all that better. Oh well.

I'll probably miss Toby though. :/ He's such a good kitty.

Livelihood ()

by fluffy at 11:39 PM
Because of my wrist problems, Amazon brought in an ergonomics consultant to evaluate my workspace and habits and so on. It was surprisingly helpful.

Although I already knew a lot of what he told me, it was helpful to have that knowledge confirmed, and he also taught me a lot of things I didn't know, and helped me to get aware of some of the areas I was being neglectful. One of the surprising things he showed me was where most of my pain was likely coming from, and oddly enough, it was a side-effect of me wearing wrist braces while working which was causing a very specific kind of fatigue which led to a major ripple effect. It was also related to the way I hold my hands when I type, which was also surprising — I did everything I could to avoid ulnar deviation by keeping my wrists completely straight, but that actually was leading to static tension which was causing way more fatigue and pain.

Someone here made a tpyo and found a site which has been spreading around.

Holiday season ()

by fluffy at 08:28 PM
So, last night I was at the liquor store. They were playing a lot of holiday music, which I'd think would be a bad thing to play at a liquor store during a time of year that a lot of people get depressed over their loneliness.

Stomping grounds (, )

Doubting Thomas was filmed at my old high school. It'd probably be really weird to watch because of that.

Incidentally, the on-campus snack bar is (or at least was) named after me. Sort of.

Fixed my relative links in RSS ()

by fluffy at 01:44 AM
Relative hyperlinks in my RSS feed should now be correct. Including that very link right there.

(Argh, except they're not. Just a sec.) Okay, fixed.

Mechanical Turk accepting third-party work ()

by fluffy at 10:39 AM
The Mechanical Turk team is looking for more work. If your business could benefit from artificial artificial intelligence, let me know privately and I'll forward the details on to the appropriate people.

CC license oddness ()

by fluffy at 01:16 AM
So, can anyone explain how by-nc and nc-sampling+ are any different aside from the extra icon on the nc-sampling+ deed?

Seriously, the only difference I can discern is that one uses the phrase "make derivative works" while the other uses the phrase "sample, mash-up, or otherwise creatively transform," and unless there's some subtle distinction I'm missing, those are just different levels of verbosity for the same thing...

DDR Extreme 2 is awesome! ()

by fluffy at 11:58 PM
With DDR Extreme 2, Konami have totally reinvented the game.

At its core it's still the same old "stomp on the arrows in time to the music," of course, but they've totally reinvented that anyway.

Condo hatin' ()

by fluffy at 07:48 PM
Well, not hatin' so much as lack of interest.

MBNA
P.O. Box 15720
Wilmington, DE 19850-5720

To the Customer Service department:

I would like to cancel my credit card card, an MBNA Mastercard with account number ending in (xxxx). I no longer use this card, and yet you keep on raising my credit limit beyond reason without my asking or consent, damaging my credit rating.

Condo lovin' ()

by fluffy at 10:06 PM
Today I looked at a few condos at site 17. Most of the ones in my price range were fairly mediocre or had other major problems (like being North-facing or facing a fairly busy street and being close to street level), but I really fell in love with one particular two-bedroom corner unit.

Square footage wise it's a little smaller than my current apartment, but the square footage is much more usefully-used. My apartment's layout (which is a bit different than on that link but that's the closest one to the unit I have) wastes a lot of space with the way hallways are arranged and so on, plus with its exorbitantly large closets (all in useless places like the front hall) while the condo is extremely space-efficient, and is also much more open and roomy.

Kensington SlimType ()

by fluffy at 12:47 PM
My new keyboards arrived; I got one each of the PC and Mac versions of the Kensington SlimType. So far I rather like the Mac one, and I expect the PC one will be just as good at work.

They are filming a movie in the lobby of my apartment ()

by fluffy at 12:25 AM
I have no idea what it is, but I watched them overacting in one scene and it seems like some sort of gay drama.

Kinda cool, but annoying because I need to get a package from the security desk. Plus, it really does seem quite cheezy.

6-month anniversary ()

by fluffy at 12:08 AM
Yay, I've now been at Amazon for 6 months, and I still love it (even though the short short days are making me feel all depressed and stuff). I still feel like I'm out of my league though. :)

I only even realized I'd been here 6 months because I forgot my security badge this morning, and was wondering if I'd set a new record. (Most people forget theirs pretty often. Fortunately it's easy to get a loaner; they just need to see your ID and verify that you actually work there, by checking to make sure you have an active UNIX login. Is that geeky or what?)
