Why not go with Fluffy Porcupine?

I know it doesn't exactly encapsulate Jazz, but it has that 'art for the sake of art' ring to it most indy bands go for in that it's too damn weird to put on the radio(thus keeping 'the man' off your back) but catchy enough to peak the interest of the kind of people who generally stay away from that mass-produced Clear Channel shit and prefer more homebrew coffee house type artists.

And if you question whether or not a name like that could garner any kind of respect for your work, why not ask Spock's Beard or Porcupine Tree what they think of weird band names. I'd have to say that they're two of the more respected bands in the Progressive scene today. Smile

EDIT: Yeah, I just scrolled down your Songfight post and found your message about Fluffy Porcupine, but my reasoning still stands. Very Happy

That's kind of a good point but I have reasons for wanting to change it. It's not that I hate the name or anything, I just don't like a lot of cruft which has built up around it.

When I was in a band in high school, we wrote all the names we could think of on little pieces of paper and made an independent observer pull one out of the hat. It turns out, that he had palmed a name /he/ had written down and pulled out ... Buttface and the Morons. After calling /him/ Buttface, we made made him draw for real and we ended up being Maximum Entropy.

But, to this day, my favorite name from the pile of little pieces of paper was the suggestion of a cute little punk rocker I knew from Lansing: Scrambled Brains on Toast. The only two other names I remember from that list were pretty unremarkable (Caged Fear, The PMS Boys). We must have had forty or fifty names on that list.

Or how about Calistos and the Cassandras?

Or I, Puniceus?

Ultimately, we did end up using the name PMS Boys. So that one's unavailable.

Yeah, and this is what happens when you get bored and start searching random phrases from your past on Google.

Good thing I went with Sockpuppet, then.
