Famous! (, )

by fluffy at 9:30 AM
Channel Frederator used my email as a bump (in episode 18). That made my morning. :D

Also, if you're not already watching Frederator, you should be. You don't even need an iPod for it (actually I prefer watching it on my computer anyway).

The other podcast you really should be watching is Ask A Ninja.

Bah, my graphics card cannot deal with it.

I wish more than episodes 1, 2 and 10 were available for watching normally.

It's not? Weird.

Well, subscribe by iTunes. Smile or I can give you the m4v files if you want.

Well, the site has the m4v files to download, but I don't use iTunes so I can't watch them.

They ought to have them available in a more universal format.

Er, m4v is pretty darn universal. it's just MPEG-4. WinAMP should be able to play it, and of course Quicktime 6 and later can.

Oh, okay. The "iPod" links pointed to .m4v files, so I thought it was iPod/iTunes specific.

Thanks.

Edit: Winamp won't play it, and neither will Media Player Classic with the most recent Quicktime Alternative installed. Maybe there's some plugin for Winamp, or some other codec that I need.

Yeah, they always talk about their podcast as if it were iPod-specific, though I think they just don't realize that stuff that plays on iPods plays on pretty much everything else too, or maybe they do but don't care because iPods are responsible for bringing it to the common human's perception (even though there's nothing new about it, just as the iPod wasn't the first portable mp3 player and so on).

Yes, I've noticed that. It's very hip, but sadly I think it kind of alienates a large segment of podcasts' potential audience: the vast majority of us who either can't afford or don't want an iPod.

If someone wants to distribute content for free, I think the best thing to do is use Bittorrent to make every possible format you could want available, in varying qualities. These guys have got the right idea.

Or maybe I'm just stuck in the past. Or jealous of the people with iPods. Razz
