The violin is cool ()

by fluffy at 8:18 PM
It took a while to get a decent amount of rosin on the cheap bow, and the cheap strings feel like I'll snap if I tune them properly (so I have it tuned like a viola but I eased them into the right tuning), and the pickup clips pretty badly, and the shoulder pad is pretty uncomfortable, but damn is this fun to play.

Especially when hooked up to a delay pedal.

Also I got Beatmania US today. I will play it after dinner, and set my wrists back three years.

Sounds like your objections can be overcome with new strings, a new bow, a new pickup, and a modified shoulder pad. I look forward to hearing it, definitely.

I've already ordered a better shoulder pad and a better bridge, and the bow is okay though not wonderful, but the pickup is integrated into the body. The better bridge might help with the pickup though since the pickup is under the bridge (it gets all its sound that way).

Beatmania US is pretty awesome. IIDX is way the hell harder than the original though. It's got plenty of original-mode songs at least.

Heh, I wonder what a violin would sound like through this.

Maybe something like this?

or maybe this (recorded by micing my microcube)

(be kind. I haven't played violin in 12 years and I sucked back then too.)

Oddly enough, the GT-8 actually has a violin patch. Ehh, it needs a little bit of work imo, but what can you expect when you're running a guitar through it.

I'd like to hear that violin through a pedal/pitch bender. Very Happy

What system is Beatmania for?

PS2. I also have most of the original PS1 mixes, which is the only reason I keep my (modded) PS1 around.

I upgraded the bridge in the violin with a Glaesel auto-adjusting one, and it made a PHENOMENAL improvement in the sound quality, and also stopped all of the rattling problem. I also bought some more fine tuners but they didn't fit the tailpiece, but I've found I don't need them anyway.

I'm naturally talented at the piano. I keep a Casio keyboard in my room, and I've learned to play a lot of songs without having anyone help me! I can play the Star Wars theme song (and the Darth Vader theme), and I can also play the Legend of Zelda theme song. I can also play a Japanese song (Mt. Sakura, which you'll probably hear a lot if you ever go to Japan), and a Chinese song (Kang Ding Qing Ge, which I learned off of my Casio keyboard). Because I have a lot of Chinese and Japanese blood in me! Wink
