Plaidophile

So, as much as I like my T39m I'm still feeling a bit constrained by it, so I just ordered a Sony Ericsson Z520a, the idea being that it's basically a clamshell version of the T610 which was, aside from the flaky keypad, my favorite phone overall.

Maybe I should have just waited a couple months and switched to Cingular and gotten one for practically free, but then I'd have been stuck in a 2-year contract with a crappy phone provider which charges up the butt for data service (which I also don't use very much anymore). My current plan is to just switch to T-Mobile To Go when my current contract is up, since it's a much better deal with my usage patterns.

Anyway I found a seller on eBay who seemed fairly reputable by eBay cellphone merchants, which was selling a whole bunch of these for $180 after shipping (of course that includes a whole bunch of price-bloating things like "handling" and "insurance" but still $180 isn't bad for it).

Someday I should cull my herd of phones. I have so many doing nothing. Some of them are actually still worth something, too, like the Panasonic X700 I bought a while ago (and got annoyed with after a month of giving it more than a fair shake).

I just really like the classic Ericsson OS. And really I think the T610 is the best phone I've ever had; it's just that the keypad was so darn flaky (which is why I only do flip and clamshell phones now; I much prefer flip phones but nobody seems to make them anymore).

Incidentally, the Z520a is slightly smaller, but also slightly thicker and slightly heavier, than the T39m. It's well within my pocket-capacity budget though.
