HOWTO: Get affordable bleu cheese ()

Axioms:
  • Bleu cheese normally costs $20/pound
  • The salad bar costs $7/pound
  • The salad bar has bleu cheese crumbles
Method: fill a salad bar cup with bleu cheese, pack it down, and add on just enough spinach leaves to make it qualify as a "salad."

Result: $7/pound bleu cheese (with a little bit of spinach).

How do you smuggle it out? Do you bring some sort of tupperware container with you and discreetly fill it up back at the table?

No, this is at the grocery store. They have a by-the-pound bulk salad bar with various things which are mostly overpriced, except the bleu cheese which is a complete bargain.

Oh, I see. I don't think I've ever seen a grocery store with a salad bar before.

The one I go to has a deli that has, like, some marinated olives and pasta salad and stuff, but no real salad.

Well I only got a little tub this time around, maybe 1/3 of a pound or so.
