It's like my mind has an RSS feed and Google read it! ()

The new Google Reader UI that was launched sometime today is just plain AWESOME, and it's exactly what I wanted while also dealing with the main issue with what I wanted in such an amazing "why didn't I think of that?" way.

Time to nuke FeedOnFeeds entirely!

It looks a lot better. And there's a "mark all as read" and a way to unsubscribe from a lot of things at once and and and! I can't wait to play around with it this weekend and maybe I'll move away from Feedreader, which was the Windows client I finally ended up with but was never fully satisfied with. I like Newsfire, but my only Mac is dying and what with being on campus a lot, I probably use my computer only 50-60% of the time these days, so an online solution is preferable.

upon a bit of review during some homework procrastination: there's no way to read easily in chronological order-- both views put the newest things on top. I'd like the opposite, at the very least for the "extended" (single-page) view, because reading posts backwards is annoying and one of the things about Livejournal that I've never liked for the 5+ years I've used it.

Yeah that's the thing I liked about FonF. I like forward chrono for aggregation if the old stuff goes away anyway

soda: That's actually a solvable problem, although you have to get a paid account with LJ to do so. Their sandboxed styling language doesn't allow you to loop over the entries backwards in any direct fashion, but you can use recursion to your benefit.

(I should really ask Brad & co. about a foreach_backwards directive, or something of the sort. I don't see any reason it shouldn't exist.)

or a sort_order directive like in movabletype.

isn't it just a matter of doing something strange like putting the keyword "reverse" before whatever you're iterating over in your foreach? I seem to remember seeing something about that. I really should mess with S2 some more one of these days, but I just never really got around to it. By the time it came out there were a handful of premade styles that I was happy enough with.

Say, just arrived from there...

Coincidental that the update happened this afternoon...someone in one of my classes was just showing me how j and k and spacebar scroll you around "one button scrollling" I think he called it. Hey for nonobvious features that work well.

That's always been there, and it's always been in the text they show inside the 'lens' when you first arrive (now it's on the right sidebar instead).

google's "sort by auto" feature seems to put things in a handy order. I'm not sure what the order IS but it's not newest-first. Maybe it groups by weblog and then does oldest to newest or something.

I'm glad I didn't nuke FonF. Google Reader is too buggy and inconsistent right now, so I've gone back to FonF for now. Oh well.
