Russell T. Davies needs to stop ()

by fluffy at 11:18 PM
I really like his revitalization of Doctor Who, but the spinoff series he's spearheaded are getting ridiculous, between Torchwood (antagonism with sex, violence, cussing, and gratuitous homosexuality for the sheer sake of "exploring new frontiers") and The Sarah Jane Adventures (Torchwood for kiddies).

Rediscovering the world of Doctor Who through Rose's eyes was a refreshing take on the canon. Repeating that formula in the other two shows is just obnoxious.

Also. "You've seen too much. Go home and forget this ever happened." When has that line ever worked?

I just can't get into Torchwood or TSJA. Torchwood is uncomfortable to watch with all the sex references. At least for me, when watching with parents. Even without that, I don't need to see some alien that lives off of orgasms to survive. That's just a bit... glah. However I do absolutely love John Barrowman. TSJA reminds me a lot of the Children's BBC dramas that showed after school that I used to watch when I was little in the UK, which is exactly what it is. It'll work for kids who are 6-12, but for everyone else it's a bit glah. It is good, but a little predictable for my tastes. Maybe it'll get better.

I am loving Doctor Who though.

I thought the first episodes of each was tolerable, even decent in the scheme of the latest two series, given what the spinoffs are. My friend has warned me off the remainder of the Torchwood. Is the rest of the TSJA so far over the top too?

I only saw the first episode of TSJA last night, which is what inspired me to post this.

I've seen three episodes of Torchwood (the pilot, Day One, and Cyberwoman), and haven't felt like seeing more.
