Hostdream ()

by fluffy at 7:29 AM
I dreamt that I was poking around on the Dreamhost control panel and found a little tutorial about how to make a metallic bezel for tables on your webpage. They had a little table-design applet and an accompanying video to explain the process — after designing the table, which involved manually coming up with a connectivity graph, they would use this graph to set up an electroplating rig (by hand) and lovingly plate the table bezel by hand and then take a digital photograph for you to use.

So, I decided to visit their facilities, and they happily gave me a tour, and they asked me about what sorts of sites I had hosted with Dreamhost and how long I'd been with them (the kindly old woman who was giving me the tour was surprised I had 5 large hosted sites after just a week, until I explained that I'd switched from another hosting setup, and she was happy when I gushed about how easy switching was). I also noticed how inefficient and wasteful their bezel-creation operation was because they didn't do anything to reclaim or recycle metal from disused bezels, and I suggested ways that they could make their process entirely virtual using CSS.

Then she had fun scrolling around on the pages of mine with fixed-position backgrounds and watching the error animations (she didn't get the joke on my ISE page though).

I was also embarrassed by how inconsistent and blah the plaid on my journal comics was (especially the older ones).

Any relation to the practice of printing a document out and taking a photograph of it on a wooden table?

Possibly!
