Still not under control ()

by fluffy at 3:27 PM
For the last month or so my wrists have been getting really bad again, and for some reason I've been in denial. Argh. I guess this is the same cycle I go through every few years. This time around I think it's a combination of bad ergonomics (my keyboard tray at work kind of sucks and I have no keyboard tray at home) and other stress factors.

In particular, over the last couple weeks I've been playing guitar and drawing a lot, which probably has a lot to do with it. Also I haven't been sleeping with my wrist braces for the last, oh, 6 months. So that's something I'm going to have to start doing again. Meh.

I'm still thinking about a change in career, but everything else I'd want to do (music producer, animator, etc.) would be just as bad on my wrists if not worse (I think the last straw for my current issue is that this weekend I spent more time than is healthy on an animation, for example).

I think I should at least get a proper keyboard tray for home, and better keyboards for both home and work (I'm using the SlimType at work and the Apple Pro Keyboard at home, when I really should get a pair of Kinesis Freestyles). Also I should bring my spare office chair (without armrests) to work (where we only have chairs with armrests) since I think the armrests are a bit part of the problem as well (their lowest position is still way too high for me when I'm in a proper ergonomic position). It also doesn't help that I ended up with a pretty crappy keyboard tray (we had two styles available, I requested the good one, somewhere along the line the other one got installed instead, and of course it was also installed in kind of the wrong place which seems to always happen since people who install keyboard trays think they can just slap it on just anywhere).

I have a feeling this cycle is going to keep repeating for the rest of my life.

Bring a screwdriver. Haven't seen many office chairs that you can't remove the armrests from.

They're not removable from this one. I tried already. The chairs are some cheap Aeron knockoff and the armrests are stuck on a captive channel track.

They're sneaky these days. They make sure everything is dependent on everything else. Because man I hates a chair with arms.
