TiVo Loves Lucy ()

by fluffy at 10:43 PM
So, when I was a kid, my parents loved I Love Lucy but I never really understood what was so great about it. So when TiVo started recording it as a suggestion I decided to watch it, and... wow, it's actually pretty funny stuff.

Is this another sign that I'm a grownup now? I guess there's worse ways to come to realize that than by laughing at an old sitcom.

I've been thinking of signing up for a grocery card as Ricky Ricardo, 623 E. 68th Street.

The good sitcom seems to be a dead art. I can't remember liking one since Seinfeld.

Don't forget The Office.

Also, 30 Rock is pretty okay most of the time, at least if you ignore Tracy Morgan.

Oh, ok...there've been a couple.

I like "How I Met Your Mother."

Ugh, I just tried watching an episode of that (it came with my iPod) and I was actually just thinking of posting a comment here about how it is the epitome of TERRIBLE SITCOM.

Oh yeah, Boston Legal is pretty good.

Boston Legal's not really a sitcom, though... it's more of a... Dramady.

The only Sitcoms I ever really enjoyed were Seinfeld and Frasier, and the Frasier formula got old really quickly. I'd say MASH, but again, it's really more of a dramady.

Dramedies have situations, and they have comedy, and much of the comedy is dependent on the situation.

Speaking of which, I'd like to make a TV show which starts with a disclaimer that it contains adult situations, and it's about people paying their bills and filing their taxes and such.

(Was that a Dave Barry joke or a Steven Wright joke?)

(Also, recall that MASH had a laugh track for most of its run, and actually started out entirely as a screwball comedy before Alan Alda convinced the producers to move towards a more dramatic route.)

Oh, I also have something of a soft spot for 'Til Death. Brad Garrett is great.

Is that reply to mine? Obviously we have different ideas of what a terrible sitcom is. That's okay, I don't like House.

It was in response to you, yes. To each their own, I guess. "How I Met Your Mother" was like a heterosexual version of Will and Grace.

I never got into that show, so it must be different, haha.
