Glasses ()

by fluffy at 6:41 PM
Today I finally got an eye exam for the first time in about 6 years, because the lenses on my glasses have gotten scuffed up enough that they don't really help my eyesight anymore. Of course I still don't really need them but I've gotten so used to wearing them all the time that I figured I'd might as well get my prescription. Well, that and it's also good to get a regular checkup every two years or so even if you don't need glasses. (Especially since there's some family history stuff which I definitely want to detect early if it happens to me.)

So, my prescription hasn't changed much if at all (I'm -.25/.5x165 in my right eye and 0/-.75x015 in my left). And of course Lenscrafters wants like $250/pair even for such a weak prescription. So I went online and found Glassy Eyes which in turn referred me to Optical4Less, where I just ordered two pairs of nice-looking glasses for $52.20 after shipping (with a 10% off coupon from Glassy Eyes). We'll see (hurrr) how they are in a week or so when they arrive.

So, between the $97 eye exam and $52.20 for two pairs of glasses, I've still paid way less out-of-pocket than what the crappy vision plan at work would have cost me ($150/year). Obviously a vision plan is very useful for someone who absolutely relies on glasses or who has more severe vision problems or wears contact lenses or whatever, but I'm so close to the extreme end of the spectrum that if I were to get a vision plan I'd be on the end subsidizing the people on the other end. Of course, that's how insurance works in general anyway.

This entry cuts off after "referred me to".

Wow, and goes wonky from there. Obviously I messed up a tag.
