It's pretty okay. I've been a bit underwhelmed by what little city exploration I've been able to do. Akihabara is just like the touristy parts of Hong Kong, only denser and with even more anime toy stores, the arcades are like Hong Kong arcades except even more densely-packed with machines and people whose sole purpose in life is to robotically play the games perfectly (at least in Hong Kong you could hear the music in the rhythm games, which is why they're fun, damnit), and the food has been pretty hit-or-miss. We went to a great restaurant for lunch yesterday where I had some awesome udon and rice with salmon and salmon eggs, then last night we went to a hole-in-the-wall ramen shop which was supposedly very good but I just found it greasy and actually too spicy (just a month ago I made a quesadilla drizzled with Dave's Total Insanity Sauce which I thought was the perfect level of spice so for something to be too spicy for me is saying a lot). I am glad I brought a big bag of bagel chips to snack on because it's been necessary on occasion.
Mostly I've just been going to meetings, and I'm only here for a few days so I don't get any time to do the sorts of things I want to do (seeing museums and such).
Blah... I don't care for Akihabara very much. As for Japanese toilets... cool. And ikura... yum! Hey if you happen to be on a train and passing through the Shibuya station, and have just a little bit of extra time to stop and get out, there is a really big food hall called Tokyu Food Show (I think I remember it being down a floor from street-level)... the displays of food almost make you feel like you're in a museum of sorts (food museum!)... plus if you're hungry and something looks good to eat you can just point and purchase and take it to go! Food definitely can be hit or miss over there. Like I was surprised when I had one of the tastiest Mexican food meals ever (and we have very good Mexican food places here in SoCal) while I was in Tokyo! Weird, huh? Hope you have time to look around some more when you're not working! =)

Then the laughing stops, and the longing begins.
Having fun over there?
