On the discovery of and subsequent disappointment regarding a local music festival ()

  1. "Oh, what's this in my last.fm feed? Radiohead and Beck! Wow! I wonder how much tickets are."
  2. "Neat, the festival is green-oriented... wait, $225.50 plus fees? Seriously?"
  3. "Oh, that's only for a three-day pass. One-day tickets are, er, only $85. Well who else is playing?"
  4. "Okay, Radiohead, Beck, Tom Petty, Primus... and a whole bunch of others I've never heard of. And to hear all four bands I do care about, I'd still need to get a two-day pass. $170."
  5. "Maybe if I hang out at my sister's place I can just hear the concert from there."

If Radiohead, Beck and Primus were all on the same day, I might do it.

Yeah, exactly. $85 for just Radiohead and Beck is too much, and $170 to add Primus is way too much.

Back in the day I spent $55 to see Primus and Fishbone together and excused it only because it was a charity concert and therefore for a good cause. I can't believe what tickets sell for.

Plus that $85 is before the Ticketmaster gouging.

I'd definitely say check out Broken Social Scene, but also Nellie McKay ("Identity Theft"'s a good one), M. Ward (or his collaboration with Zooey Deschanel, She & Him), Black Mountain, and Wilco. BSS is way up your alley.
