Wii are growing fond ()

by fluffy at 9:23 PM
So, after a week and a half of Wii Fit I'm definitely appreciating it. I've learned to ignore the "that's overweight" bit (and lately it's actually been saying "great!" when I step on the scale), and at this point my weight trajectory is finally going downwards, so I'm actually burning fat faster than I'm building muscle.

I've also unlocked everything, and I actually appreciate the unlock mechanism since it actually does give you progressively-harder things as you go (and it doesn't really take that long to do it all). I haven't even tried the second half of the yoga poses because I know I'm not yet physically capable of it. (But on that note I'm actually getting flexible enough that I don't completely mess up Sun Salutation!)

Also, the free jogging mode is quite nice. Normally I wouldn't have the concentration to just keep on jogging in place while watching TV or movies, BUT by having an actual set time and subtle auditory feedback (from the Wiimote speaker) it keeps me going for the whole 20 minutes.

My balance is also vastly improved. When I first started I was getting pretty aware of my balance throughout the day (before I did the complaint comic I was planning on doing one just showing the respective "Tetris Effects" for Tetris, DDR, and Wii Fit) and now I actually notice the way I move. When I walk I actually feel myself being balanced. Also, on the daily body test I almost always come within 0.5% of perfect balance (and today I was OH SO CLOSE to perfect!).

At this point I am definitely motivated to keep this up. There's enough of a variety in activities that I never do the same things two days in a row, which helps to keep it from being monotonous, and also since I'm on a downward trajectory weight-wise the game is getting increasingly more encouraging. Plus, when the yoga instructor tells me I have great posture I'm starting to believe it!

So, yeah, I'm liking this. It takes a bit of getting used to though, and I still wouldn't recommend the body test component for kids (and really I'd expect kids to only have fun with the balance games and some of the aerobics).
