So, my trusty old HP 2335's backlight has been fading for a while, and it's gotten to the point that I'm seriously considering getting a new one. The Dell WFP2408 looks pretty good, and right now it's only $517.

Conveniently enough, it also has HDMI, DVI, and DisplayPort, which means it's possible that when Apple finally gets around to releasing a miniDP→DP adapter I can use it with my MacBook Pro as well (and then allow my G5 to continue its steady decline towards "the file server in the corner" status).

That's a new one. Especially funny since it's not like I opted in to this list to begin with. (I guess I got signed up because I participated in MacHeist last year. All of the sudden, a lot of MacHeist participants have started spamming me over the last week. Meh.)

And of course, after clicking the opt-out email's link I got yet another email from them thanking me for confirming my removal. Something tells me I'm going to continue to get emails from these jokers.

So, Blendtec are having a sweepstakes to win a trip to Blendtec Headquarters and appear on Will It Blend. However, the sweepstakes requires purchase of a blender, which makes it technically a lottery, and thus possibly illegal, as I understand it.

Does anyone with better knowledge of the law know more about the actual laws involved? The closest I can find is regarding lottery-by-mail which is probably not within the scope of this.

I just saw the SF premiere screening of Nerdcore Rising, to which my friend (and now independent documentary star!) MC Frontalot was an attendee. Afterwards I joined him and a bunch of his friends at a nearby bar. I had two strong drinks on an empty stomach. I opted to just leave my bike at the office and take BART home. I am still feeling drunk.

So what I'm saying is I may be a bit late for work tomorrow.

So I was in the market for a new digital camera. I decided on the Sony Cybershot DSC-W150 (since it had the best blend of portability, resolution, and optical zoom range in the price range I was interested in). I get a discount from the Sony Style store, so I ordered it there for $209 + sales tax, which worked out to about $235, and I figured this was a good deal since the MSRP is $250.

Then today I saw that on Amazon it's only $199, with no sales tax, plus I would get more cash-back from my Amazon Visa.

Usually I remember to shop around, even for things I get a discount on. Oh well.

So maybe this project will fare better.

Not content with violating the privacy of Facebook members by broadcasting their personal goings-on to other Facebook members, they've now taken to spamming non-members on AIM with it as well. FABULOUS.

(Of course I already asked the coworker if he intended for that to happen — I was pretty sure he hadn't since he's even more privacy-focused than I am — and he said, "Hell no!")

I am extremely stoked about Obama winning. I'd been waiting 8 long years for November 4, 2008, and the fact that he won so categorically and decisively, so fast, without any sort of outcry from his opposition (aside from Palin doing her completely-expected retardation where she blames the very media which was the only reason she even did as well as she did), that I have great hopes for this country.

Also, Obama's victory speech did a lot to soothe my anger. I still feel like it was very bittersweet, though.

There are three silver linings, though:

1. The vote was close. Gay rights have obviously made huge strides.
2. There are already several attempts to challenge Prop 8 in court, mostly attacking it from different angles.
3. There are, by some accounts, as many as 3 million uncounted absentee ballots, which could easily swing the final count in either direction. I know that most of my coworkers voted absentee and I know that all of them voted no on 8. For example.

So with this handy interactive map you can see what the current vote tallies are across California. The "margin of victory" view is pretty interesting.

As much as I like riding my bike to work, this weather has me seriously considering getting a car again. For my weeny 3-mile commute.

I'd probably just get an old convertible or something. Even though it's such a silly solution. I guess there's just taking an umbrella and walking to BART on rainy days.

Thankfully, AccuWeather says today was the last day of rain for a while, so I can banish these thoughts of materialism once again.

So, LBP remakes of other games generally feel like steam-powered puppets, and of course Sackboy is also a puppet made of scraps. So, could we call its style "stitchpunk" and get that out of the way?
