Fuck you, Facebook ()

by fluffy at 2:42 PM
I just got this IM out of the blue, from Facebook's AIM spambot:
According to his Facebook status, [coworker] "is wearing a TShirt from the dot-com bust". [coworker] invites you to join Facebook and keep up with what he and your other friends are doing:

Already on Facebook? Login here.
You can also reply "menu" for more options.

Not content with violating the privacy of Facebook members by broadcasting their personal goings-on to other Facebook members, they've now taken to spamming non-members on AIM with it as well. FABULOUS.

(Of course I already asked the coworker if he intended for that to happen — I was pretty sure he hadn't since he's even more privacy-focused than I am — and he said, "Hell no!")

I don't understand. How did AIM know to IM you about this person you know unless he gave them his login information so they could access his AIM buddy list? That doesn't sound very "privacy focused."

I think he had my AIM info in his address book, which he synced over to Facebook by mistake, because it was part of the Facebook SDK functionality that he was trying to test for reasons I can't disclose.
