I should add: (random)
Also, Obama's victory speech did a lot to soothe my anger. I still feel like it was very bittersweet, though.
There are three silver linings, though:
- The vote was close. Gay rights have obviously made huge strides.
- There are already several attempts to challenge Prop 8 in court, mostly attacking it from different angles.
- There are, by some accounts, as many as 3 million uncounted absentee ballots, which could easily swing the final count in either direction. I know that most of my coworkers voted absentee and I know that all of them voted no on 8. For example.
Did Gore or Kerry's concession speeches involve the audience booing at the mere mention of loss or the opponent? Hell, did Bush Sr.'s the second time around?
Politics has turned into such a weird state of affairs, where there's a few shining beacons of hope (Obama, Richardson) surrounded by hordes participating in some weird bizarro-universe American Idol (GWB, McCain, Palin, Nader, Clinton, Ron Paul, etc.). I'm glad that hope has finally won out, and maybe in the next four years this country will come to its collective senses once again.
Hopefully this is my last politics post for a while and I can go back to happily rambling about introverted nerdy things.
