iTunes: Yet another way you suck (, )

by fluffy at 11:28 PM
Dear iTunes,

My MacBook Pro is connected directly via Gigabit Ethernet to my G5. YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER HAVE TO "REBUFFER" YOUR STREAM. And even if you were connected by the slowest of my wireless networks (which is still a lot more than 320kbps, the maximum possible bandwidth taken by an mp3), these "rebuffering" periods shouldn't take THREE MINUTES.

Hating the shit out of you,
fluffy

Wow - that's amazingly bad. I'd love to see some packets from that - I wonder what's actually going on under the hood. Was there anything else going on between machines on the network? Are you rendering some huge movie or something?

Nope, the G5 was just sitting idle the whole time. There weren't even any Time Machine backups going on (which is the main thing the G5 does, aside from also being my iTunes respository, iPhone sync point, and where I do my CD ripping/encoding, but none of that was happening at the time).

I think it's time to give Cog another try.

Or there's always the brand-new DoubleTwist which looks interesting as well, although their idea of library/sync management is "just drag and drop" which completely misses the point to what makes iTunes so great.

DoubleTwist: shit

Cog: wants to be good, but doesn't do shuffle by album. Grr.
