Moon ()

I will not spoil this movie, so much as just say the following:
  • Yes, the trailer hints at certain aspects of the story, but it goes in a very unexpected direction
  • What you think will be the villain is not the villain
  • It is refreshingly ambiguous and open-ended
  • The soundtrack could be better (I think Clint Mansell was just phoning it in this time around, which is unfortunate since I loved his work on π) but it still led to a very nice atmosphere
  • I was able to look past the many minor science gaffes which were probably made just in the name of making it easier to film (in the case of the live action ones) and looking more "realistic" (in the case of the CG ones), because really who the hell cares that there wouldn't be clouds of dust kicked up in a vacuum? Total nerds, that's who.

yeah, mansell's stuff on pi was awesome. he also did good stuff on requiem for a dream (with kronos quartet).

... because really who the hell cares that there wouldn't be clouds of dust kicked up in a vacuum? Total nerds, that's who.

The lunar rover that went up on Apollo 16 had some serious issues with dust getting kicked up by the wheels after John Young accidentally knocked off one of the fenders.

So, about that "total nerds" thing... Wink

What I meant (and said) was getting kicked up into clouds (that's the operative word) which linger around. Obviously dust will fly around and stuff, but in Moon it was portrayed as if there were an atmosphere.

Of course this is the Internet.

Basically there's a pretty big difference between "kicking up dust" and "kicking up clouds of dust" in that only one of those can happen without an atmosphere.

Ah, okay - I get the difference. I haven't seen the movie (probably should!) so I wouldn't know which one it was. Smile

Well you should see it! It is an excellent movie.
