The state of the stomach ()

by fluffy at 12:08 AM
Once-daily Nexium isn't nearly as effective as twice-daily Zegerid was. I don't feel like my ulcer is making any progress, and I still wake up with a sour tummy. I should talk to my doctor again. Ugh.

It doesn't help that I've quickly fallen back into my pre-GERD habits, though, but when I look at lists of food to avoid, well, what the hell is there left to eat? Basically it seems like everything but water and the blandest possible food is off-limits.

I've also been having pretty bad headaches lately, as well as gas, stomach pain, and dry mouth. Those show up on Nexium's side-effect lists, so maybe I really should see my doctor about this. Bleh.

Get to the doctor again. There are other options out there.

Yeah, I know, and yesterday morning I called the doctor, and he's going to try to get me on Zegerid again, BUT it'll take about a week before insurance will authorize it. I was ranting a bit about this on Twitter but never got around to updating this entry.

i hope you find something that works for you. maybe another doc can suggest something else? and apparently some meds don't work right away (?). i thought my omeprazole wasn't working but then another doc told me i had to take it regularly for six weeks before it would start working properly... in the meantime, do you like sushi?

Zegerid started to work great pretty much right away when I was on it for samples, but then I switched to just omeprazole for a couple weeks while waiting for insurance to get its act together and the ulcer came back. Now I've been on Nexium for a week and still can't even sleep at night because of the acid pain.

My insurance did finally authorize Zegerid, though, and I'll be picking that up this evening, so hopefully things will get better soon. I miss beer.
