Gingerbread: the greenest OS ever (geekery)
Gingerbread is a very green OS. By that I don't mean it's particularly eco-friendly, though; I mean it is imbued with the color green. Here are some screenshots I took after upgrading my Nexus One today. (Warning: massive image dump)
The new lock screen shows a preview of what's to come:

(No, that isn't my actual lock pattern. Funny story: my parents recently got Android phones and I individually showed each of them how to turn on a lock pattern. They ended up coming up with patterns which were exact mirror images of each others'. How crazy is that?)
Here's the default home screen (I actually use ADW Launcher normally so that's why my app setup is so sparse):

There's a new Books app which totally doesn't look like an iOS UI at all, no sir:

and here's how ADW launcher looks (which is the same as on Froyo, except for the very green status bar and the very green system app icons):

Apparently it's going to snow today?

The phone is green.

Most of the added UI chrome is a bit silly (for example, when the screen turns off it goes BWEEEEEEOOOOOOO out like an old TV which is cute exactly once) but there's a cute little new scroll widget facet which I quite like; when you try to go past the end of a list view...

...you get a nice little bit of visual feedback.
This is on all of the list views; obviously ADWLauncher is using a standard list view for its app drawer:

Checkboxes are very green, but also a bit more usable than before:

The application manager has been refreshed a bit. Now it shows at a glance how much space is available based on the context you're looking at, and also the "on SD card" list shows all the apps which can go on the SD card and which ones aren't there. Unfortunately, you still have to individually manage the app placement, and I don't think there's a config anywhere to make it automatically put things on SD if possible.

Car Home has been refreshed a bit. At first it doesn't look very different...

But what's this? "Add shortcut?"

Holy crap, you can finally change the Car Home screen! Yay!

It also has a new color UI mode. And guess what color it is...

(Only kidding. You can actually set it to whatever color you want.)
The Places app has also been updated to be more car-friendly, now with more Mona Lisa:

Unfortunately, they use this goofy car-friendly UI even when not in car mode, but at least it's still usable in phone mode. (I don't know if Android even lets apps provide different layouts for different dock modes yet.)
