Journal: 2007/03/06: Fauxdora (2007/04/02)

Lately I have been experimenting with a different mode of dress than usual.
[[plaid fedora]] [[hair tied back]] [[unbuttoned dress shirt over usual t-shirt (under jacket)]] [[belt (not shown)]]
A fedora is perfect in Seattle - on sunny days, blocks the sun, on rainy days, blocks the rain.
[[On the bus]]
It has changed my perspective in odd ways.
random person: Oh, no, I like standing up, thank you though.
fluffy: {Hm, this guy has a Treo too.}
[[guy: twiddling with prefs]] [[fluffy: reading blogs]]
fluffy: {But I bet he doesn't have a fedora.}

Unity: Downtime (2007/04/09)

Sam: [[with scalp stubble]] Mm, good morning, hubshine. How are you feeling?
Juni: Like something big and unpleasant sat on my head.
Sam: You know, I thought my pillow felt a bit hard.
Sam: So, hey, you're on medical leave for now, so why don't we spend some time together today?
Juni: [[Fretted brow]] Don't ... we always spend time together?
Sam: Er, well, yeah, but I mean... you know, personal time.
Juni: Oh, right. How does that work between us?
Sam: Huh? It's simple, we go to the beach or something.
Juni: [[Blushing]] Oh, I thought you ... never mind. The beach sounds lovely.

Unity: Sounds (2007/04/11)

Sam: And that's Cassandra's, our favorite little bistro... They have a lovely cilantro-ape ceviche. Good roast beef, too.
Juni: That sounds good.
Sam: Mm, and you know what else sounds -
Juni: Wait, did you hear that?
Sam: Hear what?
Juni: You've got to take me to work.
Sam: Juni, I can't-
Juni: Sam, please, I think I heard something terrible happen.
Sam: Fine. I'll call Tamu.

Unity: Worth a shot (2007/04/13)

Sam: Hi, Tamu, sorry to alarm you but Juni says it heard something, and it wants to investigate./No, it didn't say what...
Juni: It sounded like a ground breach.
Sam: It says a ground breach.
Juni: Like a hit, and a ripping.
Sam: Like a hit and a rip-/Okay, it won't be happy but I'll let it know you said that. Thank you, sir.
Sam: Tamu says the outer hull was hit by a sharp rock, which tore some cloth-
Juni: That's what I thought it might be!
Sam: -but it was detected and fabbers are already fixing it, and you're still on leave.
Juni: Meh. It was worth a try...

Unity: Sound-scent synaesthesia (2007/04/16)

Juni: No, of course I figured a ship of this size would already have that sort of thing taken care of. I'm just feeling so useless now.
Sam: You're not useless. You just need some time off.
Sam: How do you hear those things anyway? The outer cloth is a few kilometers down, right?
Juni: I guess I'm just attuned to it. It has a very distinct scent.
Sam: Scent?
Juni: Sure, you know how certain sounds make different smells?
Sam: No, I can't say that's very familiar.

Unity: Is it safe? (2007/04/18)

Juni: [[Building a sand hill]] So you were saying what I do, before we were interrupted back at the restaurant.
Sam: Mm, right. You're one of an octet of scientists working for Tamu Haring, who ensures that Unity is on course and all its occupants are safe.
Sam: You don't talk about your job much, but as I understand it you mostly deal with how it all works together. So you coordinate the others, with Tamu making the final decisions.
Juni: So the other seven scientists... do they have...
Sam: No, most of them don't have an agent. You're just generally paranoid.
Juni: Hm. Seems like it was justified, considering.
Sam: No, not really.../[[Looking at sand hill]] Is that... is that an egg clutch?

Unity: Not really (2007/04/20)

Juni: "Not really?" What about this "incident" I've heard so little about?
Sam: A full investigation is underway.
Juni: And? What do you know so far about it?
Sam: I can't tell you. The entire investigation is confidential.
Juni: Even to me?
Sam: *Especially* to you.
Juni: Well that's a bit off-putting. Can you at least give me a little hint?
Sam: Please, Juni. Just drop it.
Juni: And you wonder why I'm paranoid.
Sam: No, not really.

2007/04/26: Sorry about that

I kind of lost my energy for doing comics for a while, but then I got some encouragement and helpful advice from an unlikely source. (Thanks, Dan!)

Of course, this is still just something I do for fun in my spare time and other aspects of life still have me devoting my energy elsewhere, so it'll probably be a while before I get back to three comics a week.

2007/04/20: That was close

This latest comic came down to the wire for lateness (and I even had a run-in with Photoshop crashing and me losing all the coloring). Not that it really matters or anything.

2007/04/16: Jeeze, that's a tiny buffer

I've been busy lately. Just not with the comic.

2007/04/04: I hate drawing backgrounds

They are what take so long on Unity, and they are totally un-fun to do. Guh.
