Good Things: September 16, 2011: Dream (2011/09/17)

For the last couple months, Rachael Smith (creator of Flimsy and all around excellent illustrator) has been doing a daily comic called One Good Thing, where she reminds herself of the little things that make life good. It seems like the kind of daily therapy that would help me as well.

These are the sorts of things that can at least keep a buffer going. It's worth a try, anyway.

Good Things: September 17, 2011: Bee (2011/09/18)

Good Things: September 18, 2011: Found (2011/09/19)

Good Things: September 19, 2011: Work (2011/09/20)

Good Things: September 20, 2011: Transmogrify (2011/09/21)

The other good thing was I finally figured out another bug that looked like something completely different and was confusing everyone, and I also got rid of a major application performance problem, but those seemed less fun to draw.

2011/09/29: So far, even better

This project seems to be helping in a lot of respects. Although if my life gets too thematically-repetitive I'll just have to start doing fiction comics to fill in the gaps.

2011/09/23: Livestreaming software suggestions?

So for last night's livestream I used CamTwist and UStream Producer. However, they made my system pretty slow and the video quality wasn't very good. Does anyone have any other suggestions for software that might work better?

The only other free desktop-streaming software I've found for the Mac is ManyCam, so I'll probably give that a try, and I'll also probably use Justin.TV instead of Ustream tonight since that seemed to work pretty well for my friend Jonathan when he was streaming from his recording studio for all of June, but if there are any other solutions people know about I'd love to give them a try!

(And FWIW I have the top-end current-generation Mac mini, which is a pretty fast computer, but Lion still seems a bit quirky when it comes to a lot of A/V stuff, like with how my audio interface doesn't want to work quite out-of-the-box just yet, so that might also have something to do with how laggy it gets.)

2011/09/22: Live streaming the comic

In case you're interested in watching how I work, I'm streaming the comic right now (8:15 PM PDT), on my ustream channel. It will probably go until 10:15 or so.

Well, that was fun! I recorded the whole thing so you can watch it later, although I don't know how long I'll keep the recordings around. Next time I'll try to give more notice.

2011/09/20: So far, so good

Who knew forcing myself to do a journal comic could be a good source for positive daily inspiration? You just have to know where to look.

2011/09/15: burnt out

I've just been feeling burnt out for the last few months. I feel terrible about it but every time I try to draw a comic I just can't.

I'm grateful for everyone who still checks my comic site regularly but really you're a lot better off using an RSS reader.
