Twilight Plaidness

Transcript

This is why I haven't gotten any comics done in a while:
[[Midna from Zelda: Twilight Princess is riding on a plaid wolf, presumably a representation of fluffy in the role of Link]]

Yup yup yup, quite the time sink. Arguably one of the best stories in the series so far (though I am partial to Wind Waker). I wish there was a Boss Rush mode on this one. There are a couple of boss fights that I would like to play more than once.

Oh well, five more years or so to the next one...

Actually it's not Twilight Princess sucking my time this week so much as general life stress and lack of sleep and so on.

And yeah, it'd be really nice if Nintendo were generally better about making it so you could replay bosses and other one-time scenes. Boss-rushing would be fun in pretty much all of the Zelda games, and there's a lot of scenes I want to re-do in the Paper Mario games as well.

Also, I feel like the bosses in TP are way too easy so far, though I'm only at Snowpeak Ruins.

I didn't like Wind Waker so much, incidentally. What game was there was great but there wasn't enough actual game. Most of it was just sailing around the world on a stupid scavenger hunt.

ah, but i loved loved that world and loved sailing around it and finding treasure. I really like how the legend of the Triforce turned into the Triumph Forks over time too.

Anyhoo, get some rest.

So I'm on the sky city now, which is apparently the second-to-last chapter. which makes Twilight Princess actually nearly as short as Wind Waker was, at least in terms of actual dungeons and so on (I guess I've spent the same amount of time on WW and TP but again WW was padded by so much sailing). And Majora's Mask only had four dungeons (and a LOT of sidequest filler). It's like Ocarina was the last real full-length Zelda game or something (with 9 actual dungeons). All the Zeldas up to Ocarina were HUGE but all the ones after are teeny.

What happened to the Zelda games to make them all so dang short?

Twilight Princess has, what, 7 dungeons (3x fused shadow, 4x mirror) and 4 interstitial quests (3x twilight bugs, 1x statue hunt) and the endgame? And the dungeons and interstitial quests are so short (aside from the third twilight bug one which is just annoying). And then the side-quests (Poe spirit, golden bugs) seem so pointless (I don't see the point at all to golden bugs yet and I already got the first 21 Poes and thus the third bottle).

Also (spoiler warning) I get the distinct impression that the past hero who teaches you the sword techniques is a past incarnation of Link, possibly the one from Ocarina. Basically what he said at the end of his final speech led me to think that.

Also (another spoiler warning) I think the introduction to Link to the Past is (retroactively) actually a portmanteau of the stories of Ocarina and Twilight Princess - note that some of the details actually fit the TP backstory (told by the sages) better than what happened in Ocarina. Kind of cool.
