69. Justifiable skepticism

A TRUE STORY: I saw the door in the background on panel 3 and decided it needed a sign on it to signify its room number and purpose, so I spent quite some time coming up with a number system and a few more words in Hiero, their language, to convey what exactly the room was for. While I was at it I went ahead and started drawing a dictionary so I could collect words and grammar forms as I came up with them. After painstakingly coming up with all this, I then very carefully made a very well-crafted sign for the door, and spent a good 15 minutes tweaking the effects on the text layer. Then when I turned my foreground layer on, I found out that Juni's head OBSCURED THE WHOLE THING. You will just have to believe me when I say that there is a very nice sign on the door behind Juni's head, because there is. Tamu: Fortunately it's fivesday, so we don't have to worry about lab availability.
Juni: Lab? Where are you taking me?
Tamu: Oh, don't be so fatalistic. We are going to experiment.

Juni: With what?
Tamu: With you, to figure out how it is the machine can talk to you.
Juni: Doesn't it just send data to my implant?
Tamu: No, of course not. We removed that as soon as we copied yout neural patterns.
Juni: Oh...

Juni: Wait... Then how is Sam still able to zap me to sleep?
Tamu: A very good question. I never told him the implant was removed, but his protocol transmitter still seemed to work on you.
Tamu: My guess is the reasons are related.
